Creative Writing Series - An Evening with Tracy Dawson

The UT Creative Writing Program is excited to present an evening with actor, screenwriter, and author Tracy Dawson. The event will take place September 23 at 7pm in the Lindsey Young Auditorium of John C. Hodges Library. The event is free and open to the public.

Tracy Dawson is an award-winning actor, screenwriter and author. Her book, Let Me Be Frank, came out in 2022 from HarperCollins.

Tracy began her career on the alternative comedy stages of Toronto, and as a mainstage performer at The Second City. In 2009 Tracy's play, them & us, was produced by the prestigious Theatre Passe Muraille in Toronto. That same year she won an emerging TV writer award at the Banff World Television Festival. She was both a writer and lead actor on the Canadian sitcom Call Me Fitz and won both the Gemini Award and the Canadian Screen Award for Best Lead Actress in a Comedy Series for her work opposite Jason Priestley on that show.

Tracy has worked as a writer on several American and Canadian television series and she has sold and developed several of her own TV projects on both sides of the border. She is currently working on the screen adaptation of her book and developing a feature film project with actress Vicky Krieps (Phantom Thread). She is a regular screenwriting mentor at CineStory in Idyllwild and an invited mentor at Nostos Screenwriting Retreat in Tuscany, Italy. She recently traveled to Luxembourg to present a masterclass talk at the 2024 Luxembourg Film Festival. Tracy was born in Ottawa, Canada, and currently lives in Los Angeles with her life partner Isaac, who is a dog.

Live the Age of Chivalry with Robin Hood at Tennessee Medieval Faire

The 9th annual Tennessee Medieval Faire invites you to travel back in time to the High Middle Ages (circa 1194 AD) to Live the Age of Chivalry with Robin Hood. The festival will open on October 5 and run for three consecutive weekends on Saturdays and Sundays. This outdoor, interactive, family-friendly, entertainment-oriented, special event will spring to life in Harriman, just west of Knoxville.

Visitors are encouraged to come to the festival with a sense of play. Wearing a medieval costume is optional, but patrons can enter the costume contest to win a prize. Visitors are also encouraged to share a talent in the Gong Show or to get knighted after a Chess Match. For the more romantic, folk dancing and speed courting are available. There will also be unicorn photo opportunities, axe-throwing, corn hole, giant chess, steel drum, and other games.

Throughout the eight-acre medieval village, professional acts will seek to entertain. Tournaments of skill will include The Royal Joust by Equus Nobilis and Human Combat Chess by the interactive street characters. Demonstrating circus talents will be aerialist, The Mandy Circus (new) (Oct 5-6); The Flaming Ginger (October 12th-13th, 19th-20th); and award-winning teen juggler, The Amazing Atticus (new). Back by popular demand will be interactive comedy trio, The Tortuga Twins; and Middle Eastern dance will be showcased by Tanasi Fusion (October 12th-13th) and Misfit Gypsies (October 19th-20th).

Visitors can feel transported by Celtic, pirate, and folk music by The CrossJacks, Kris Colt-The Black Rose, Estaban Diego of Landloch’d, Cory Whipple, Timothy Russell, Catalina the harpist, and Bravura Music Academy. Costumed street characters will also seek to entertain in the Tales of Robin Hood, The Sheriff’s Follies, Throw Me a Line, Chester the Heroic Little Pig, and Sherwood School. Interacting with these costumed street characters is also encouraged. Please visit the website for entertainment details: https://tmfaire.com/medieval-faire-entertainment/. Schedules will be available online before opening and at the festival entrance.
