Knoxville Police Officer Arrested on Federal Child Pornography Charges

An officer from the Knoxville Police Department found himself in handcuffs this Monday, facing federal charges related to child pornography production, as disclosed by officials from the United States Department of Justice.

Officer Dan Roark, aged 47, was apprehended and subsequently appeared in court to address these allegations.

Roark commenced his career at the KPD in 2007, with his last patrol duties occurring in 2020. Over the course of his tenure, he managed to secure the title of Officer of the Month on six separate occasions.

The accusations against Dan Roark have sparked widespread concern and revulsion. If proven true, they signify a shocking and deplorable breach of innocence. These allegations have cast a dark shadow on our agency and the law enforcement profession as a whole. We are fully committed to collaborating with federal investigators and will act expeditiously to address these distressing claims and begin rebuilding public trust.

KPD Chief Paul Noel expressed his strong sentiments regarding the situation.

This arrest was the result of a collaborative investigation involving Homeland Security Investigations, the Scott County Sheriff's Office in Virginia, the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, and the Ninth Judicial District Attorney's Office.

Roark is scheduled for a detention hearing on November 9, and he will remain in federal custody until then.

Furthermore, the Office of Professional Standards has initiated an independent investigation into the incident.
