Knoxville's 98th Veterans Day Parade will march down Gay Street on Friday, November 10th, come rain or shine. This event is orchestrated by the American Legion Post 2, with valuable assistance from the City of Knoxville Office of Special Events. The procession promises a remarkable spectacle, featuring 105 participating units, including the iconic Budweiser Clydesdales.
Joining the festivities are various participants, such as local high school marching bands, ROTC groups, vintage military vehicles, and a medley of local businesses and organizations. The parade is a vibrant celebration of patriotism and honor.
To accommodate this grand event, road closures will be in effect to ensure the safety and smooth flow of the parade. The following roads will be closed starting at 8 a.m.:
Gay Street between Sevier and Hill Avenues
Hill Avenue between Gay and State Streets
Main Street between Walnut Avenue and Gay Street
At 9 a.m., additional closures will take place on:
Market Street between Union and Clinch Avenues
Union Avenue between Walnut and Gay Streets
At 10 a.m., Wall Avenue will be closed, followed by the closure of Gay Street between E. Hill and Magnolia Avenues at 10:15 a.m. These measures will ensure the parade route remains clear and safe for participants and spectators alike.
Once the parade concludes, all roads will reopen by 12:30 p.m., allowing traffic to resume as usual.
To make the most of this special event, attendees are encouraged to arrive early. Furthermore, in honor of Veterans Day, parking in Knoxville-owned garages and metered parking outside the parade zone will be free on Friday. This gesture is a small token of appreciation for the veterans who have served our nation with dedication and sacrifice.
