Former Tennessee Athletic Director Mike Hamilton Passes Away at 60

Mike Hamilton, the former athletic director at the University of Tennessee, passed away at 60 after battling cancer and awaiting a liver transplant. Hamilton served as Tennessee's athletic director from 2003 to 2011 and was involved with the university's athletic department for about two decades. He was recognized for his strong faith and commitment to family, having adopted five children, including three from Ethiopia.

His tenure at Tennessee was notable for significant achievements in both football and basketball, although it ended amid NCAA issues and controversy. After leaving the university, Hamilton focused on nonprofit work, notably with addressing health and water crises in Africa, and Show Hope, supporting adoption and orphan care. He also worked with Learfield's University Partnership Group, connecting universities with corporate sponsorships. Hamilton's legacy is marked by his contributions to university athletics and his humanitarian efforts post-Tennessee.

Knoxville Man Pleads Guilty in Plot to Assassinate FBI Agent

Austin Carter, 26, from Knoxville, admitted his involvement in a plan to assassinate FBI agents in Knoxville, alongside co-conspirator Edward Kelley, 33, from Maryville. This plan was formulated over two weeks in December 2022 as a retaliation against government actions. Carter, initially pleading not guilty, changed his plea in a deal. Kelley, facing additional charges, maintained his not-guilty stance.

The plot involved Carter and Kelley, along with an unidentified witness, planning attacks on FBI employees. Kelley, identified as the leader of this scheme, reportedly acted in response to his arrest during the January 6 insurrection at the U.S. Capitol.
