Maple Syrup Spill Causes I-75 Closure
Late Tuesday - An overturned tractor-trailer led to the closure of Interstate 75 at mile marker 159, as per information from TDOT. During the accident, the tanker ignited and its cargo of maple syrup was spilled across the roadway. Consequently, both directions of the highway were closed for cleanup operations.
Rising Interest Rates Challenge Knoxville Homeowners
Knoxville homeowners are facing difficulties in selling their properties due to a significant shift from the historically low interest rates of the COVID-19 era to some of the highest rates seen in recent times. While there has been a slight decrease in rates since October, they are still substantially higher than they were a few years ago, leading to reduced affordability for potential buyers.
This situation, a result of the Federal Reserve's efforts to curb inflation by raising interest rates, has made it challenging for average incomes to keep up with the rising house prices.
Compounding this issue is the effect of these higher rates on monthly mortgage payments. A striking example is that a house worth $1 million purchased in January 2021 now has a lower monthly payment than a $500,000 house under current interest rates.
University of Tennessee's Dalton Knecht Named First SEC Player of the Week for 2023-2024 Season
Dalton Knecht, from the University of Tennessee men's basketball team, has been named the first SEC Player of the Week for the 2023-24 season, thanks to his outstanding performances in his first week with the team.
He played a key role in Tennessee's victories over Tennessee Tech and Wisconsin, averaging 20.5 points, 4.0 rebounds, and 1.5 assists, while showing remarkable shooting accuracy. Knecht's individual contributions were notable in both games, leading in scoring and demonstrating his skill as a fifth-year guard.
He becomes the eleventh player from Tennessee to receive this honor under Coach Rick Barnes, indicating the continued success of the program. The team, currently with a 2-0 record and ranked seventh/eighth, looks forward to their next game against Wofford at the Food City Center.
