Lawsuit Filed Against Knox County Schools for Alleged ADA Violation

The parents of a 15-year-old girl have sued Knox County Schools and the Knox County Board of Education for allegedly violating the Americans with Disabilities Act. They claim the district required their daughter, undergoing mental health treatment, to enroll in a distant facility and later barred her from returning to Bearden High School, where she transferred to escape bullying.

Instead, she was directed to return to her original school, which the family opposed due to past bullying issues. The lawsuit challenges the district's transfer and attendance policies, emphasizing the need for consistent schooling for the girl's mental health. Knox County Schools declined to comment due to the pending lawsuit.

Storm Chasers Unite: Join the SKYWARN Program

The National Weather Service office in Morristown, monitors 40 counties, including Knox County. To enhance public safety during such severe weather events, the office relies on its advanced radar and a network of amateur radio operators called SKYWARN. These volunteers, numbering over 4,000 and aged 12 to over 80, act as the office's eyes on the ground, providing crucial real-time information about ground conditions.

The Morristown office continuously seeks more volunteers and offers both in-person and online training, with no prior radio skills required. Participants receive a spotter ID and a four-year certification upon completing the training. The article also includes details on how to join the SKYWARN program.
