Record-Breaking Turnout at 39th Regal Knoxville Turkey Trot 5K
The 39th annual Regal Knoxville Turkey Trot 5K, held on Thanksgiving, set a new record for the largest turnout for both a Turkey Trot and a 5K in Knoxville.
Over 3,700 participants from 36 states joined the race, organized by the Knoxville Track Club and sponsored by Regal.
Bringing Thanksgiving Cheer: Mobile Meals Knoxville Serves Seniors with Food and Fellowship
Mobile Meals in Knoxville plays a crucial role during Thanksgiving by delivering meals and providing companionship to seniors who may otherwise be alone. Volunteers find deep emotional fulfillment in serving these seniors, who often rely on these deliveries for both nutrition and safety checks.
This year, 150 volunteers delivered meals to 700 out of 1,100 seniors in the program. This service often represents the only social interaction these seniors have during the week, making the volunteers an essential part of their Thanksgiving celebration.
University of Tennessee's Statewide Mural Campaign Brightens Knox County Barn Artwork
The "Everywhere You Look, UT" mural campaign, initiated by the University of Tennessee in 2018, aims to paint a mural in each of Tennessee's 95 counties by 2030. A recent addition to this project is a mural in Knox County, painted on a barn owned by University of Tennessee alumnus Steve Nash.
The mural has become a local attraction, visible to thousands of drivers daily. Nash, a long-time supporter of the university, has used his 100-acre farm and the resources provided by the university to maintain his land. The mural and Nash's Bluetick Coonhound, Knox, have both become symbols of the university, garnering positive community response and enhancing the connection between Nash's farm and the University of Tennessee.

Expanding Small Business Saturday into Small Business December
As the holiday season approaches, we have a unique opportunity to transform the success of Small Business Saturday into a broader, more impactful initiative: Small Business December. This initiative is more than just a campaign; it’s a community-driven movement to support our local economy and the small businesses that are its backbone. Small businesses give our community its unique character, create jobs, and invigorate our local economy. By choosing to shop locally throughout December, we not only find unique gifts for our loved ones but also contribute to the prosperity and resilience of our neighborhood.
Our collective efforts can make a significant difference. We encourage each of you to be ambassadors for this cause. Share your local shopping experiences on social media, recommend your favorite small businesses to friends and family, and consider buying your holiday gifts from local artisans and shopkeepers. Local businesses often offer beautifully crafted, unique items that make thoughtful and memorable gifts. Remember, every purchase you make at a small business is an investment in our community’s future.
Let’s come together to make Small Business December a new tradition that supports and celebrates the heart of our community - our local businesses. It’s more than just shopping; it’s about building a stronger, more connected community. Your support can help turn a challenging year into a brighter season for our small business owners. Let’s show them how much they mean to us and make this December a month of local love and community spirit.
