Knoxville's Iconic Flea Market Prepares for New Chapter at Chilhowee Park

The Flea Market at the Knoxville Expo Center - a long-standing event held at the Expo Center for over 20 years, is relocating to the historic Jacobs Building at Chilhowee Park next year.

Long-time vendors are optimistic that their loyal customers will follow them to the new location. The Expo Center has been like a second home to these vendors, and they have appreciated the consistent support from the flea market's management. As the market prepares for this transition, there's a sense of community and anticipation for continued success at the new venue.

7-Year-Old Raises $4,000 for Foster Kids with Lemonade Stand

Seven-year-old Emory from Knox County demonstrated remarkable compassion and entrepreneurial spirit by raising nearly $4,000 through a lemonade stand last summer. Instead of keeping the profits for herself, she chose to use the money to bring joy to others.

Emory, along with her family, used the funds to purchase toys for foster children in Knox County, showcasing a heartwarming act of kindness and community support.

Law Enforcement and Medical Personnel Graduate from Specialized Crisis Response Training

Twenty-seven individuals from various law enforcement, first responder, and medical organizations completed Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) training this past Friday. The graduates represented a range of departments including police, fire, sheriff's office, and medical centers across Tennessee.

The CIT program involved 40 hours of intensive training focused on identifying mental health resources, fostering collaboration between officers and mental health professionals, and practicing verbal de-escalation and crisis response techniques.

Expanding Small Business Saturday into Small Business December

As the holiday season approaches, we have a unique opportunity to transform the success of Small Business Saturday into a broader, more impactful initiative: Small Business December. This initiative is more than just a campaign; it’s a community-driven movement to support our local economy and the small businesses that are its backbone. Small businesses give our community its unique character, create jobs, and invigorate our local economy. By choosing to shop locally throughout December, we not only find unique gifts for our loved ones but also contribute to the prosperity and resilience of our neighborhood.

Our collective efforts can make a significant difference. We encourage each of you to be ambassadors for this cause. Share your local shopping experiences on social media, recommend your favorite small businesses to friends and family, and consider buying your holiday gifts from local artisans and shopkeepers. Local businesses often offer beautifully crafted, unique items that make thoughtful and memorable gifts. Remember, every purchase you make at a small business is an investment in our community’s future.

Let’s come together to make Small Business December a new tradition that supports and celebrates the heart of our community - our local businesses. It’s more than just shopping; it’s about building a stronger, more connected community. Your support can help turn a challenging year into a brighter season for our small business owners. Let’s show them how much they mean to us and make this December a month of local love and community spirit.
