East Tennessee Volunteers Bring Christmas Cheer to Seniors Living Alone

Over 150 East Tennessee volunteers braved the rain on Christmas to deliver meals, gifts, and holiday cheer. Social connections are very important for seniors, especially during the holidays. With over 103,000 older adults in Knox County, many below the poverty line, the Knoxville-Knox County Community Action Committee (CAC) emphasizes the critical need for more volunteers. Christmas Day Arson at Knoxville Church Leads to Seymour Man's Arrest

A man from Seymour was arrested on Christmas morning for setting a small fire in a bridal suite at the Church Street United Methodist in Knoxville. The 34-year-old suspect, Billy Walker, entered the church through unlocked doors around 3 a.m. A custodian discovered him locked in the bridal suite, where he had ignited a bench and a paper towel dispenser.

Walker, initially resistant, was persuaded to open the door, revealing smoke and a burning odor. He now faces aggravated arson charges, with a bond hearing set for December 28.
