Dumpster-Diving Bear Gets a Speedy Ride

In an unusual incident, a bear seeking food ventured into a dumpster and was inadvertently transported to the Waste Connections center on Prosser Road.

TWRA officials safely tranquilized and relocated the bear to a wildlife area.

Where to Recycle Your Christmas Lights and Dispose of Live Trees

Any donation store (including Goodwill) will accept working lights. Other locations are City Recycling Centers, County Convenience Centers, and the Household Hazardous Waste facility at 1033 Elm Street. Non-working lights can be donated to Goodwill.

Recycle your live trees at any County Convenience Center for free from January 2nd - 30th.

Urgent Call for Volunteers and Donations as Knoxville Faces Freezing Temperatures

The Office of Housing Stability is calling for volunteers and donations to support warming centers for the homeless as temperatures are expected to drop into the 20s in early January.

The office, in collaboration with local churches and homeless service providers, has set up four centers across Knox County for those in need during extremely cold weather.

They need sleeping bags, bedding, scrubs, toiletries, socks, and underwear. Volunteers are also needed for various shifts from January 1st to 15th. For donations, contact Knox Area Rescue Ministries at (865) 673-6540 or [email protected].

To volunteer, reach out to the Office of Housing Stability at 211 [email protected].

Dog Poo Disagreement Turned Deadly

A dispute over dog poo led to a fatal shooting. Stefen White, 34, shared a yard with the victim. White was asked by the victim to clean up his dog's poo from the yard. Instead of complying, White allegedly drew a handgun and shot the victim in the chest. White has been arrested and faces second-degree murder charges.
