Check Road Conditions Before Venturing Out, with TDOT Smartway
Want to see how the roads on your route look BEFORE venturing out? Check out the TDOT Smartway cameras! NOTE: TDOT may at times turn off their cameras in different areas. From what we have seen, this is not permanent, and those turned off will indeed be turned back on.
Waste Connections to Accommodate Extra Trash When it Resumes Service Next Week
Waste Connections has announced a plan to accommodate the accumulation of extra trash due to recent hazardous weather conditions that have disrupted regular trash collection routes. Residents are informed that Waste Connections will collect additional garbage that may not fit in their regular trash cans once the roads are deemed safe.
This service adjustment comes as a relief to many local households, which have seen an increase in accumulated trash while waiting for the resumption of regular collection services. Knoxville's Waste and Resources Management has clarified that residents can securely bag any extra trash and place it beside their usual trash cans. This temporary measure will ensure that all additional waste is collected on the next scheduled pick-up day.
For recycling, Waste Connections advises residents to use cardboard boxes or designated recycling containers for any overflow materials. These should be placed next to the recycling bins. However, it is important to note that recyclables should not be put in plastic bags, as these are not recyclable through the city's program.
The service is set to resume its regular schedule next week, aiming to address the backlog caused by the adverse weather conditions.
Knoxville's Warmth Shines Through the Snow
This week's rare heavy snowstorm transformed Knoxville's landscape, but more notably, it brought out the best in our community. Amidst the beauty and challenges of the snow-covered hills and curves, we've witnessed an incredible display of neighborly support.
Residents across Knoxville have stepped up remarkably during these tough times. From offering rides to work and grocery stores to those without safe transport, to assisting in pulling cars out of ditches, the acts of kindness have been heartwarming. These gestures, big and small, show the true spirit of our community.
Neighbors, some meeting for the first time, have come together, showing that the warmth of our community can outshine even the coldest of days. This storm has not just brought snow but has also highlighted the strength and unity of our residents.
As we move past the snowstorm, let's continue to carry this spirit of camaraderie and support. A huge thank you to everyone who has lent a helping hand – you've made Knoxville more than just a place to live; you've made it a community to be proud of.
