Three Middle School Students Arrested for False Shooter Threat
Three students from Gibbs Middle School were arrested following a false active shooter alert at Halls Middle School. The Knox County Sheriff’s Office Juvenile Detectives Unit apprehended the eighth graders – two boys and a girl – after they placed two hoax calls to emergency services, claiming there was an active shooter at the school. These calls, made at 11:31 and 11:32, led to a swift law enforcement response.
The students face serious charges, including the felony of making a false report, along with misdemeanors for threats of mass destruction and misuse of the E-911 Communications system. It's important to note that this was the only threat reported and no other schools in the Knox County area were targeted. However, for safety and investigative purposes, all schools in both the Gibbs and Halls areas were temporarily placed on lockdown.
The three students involved are currently held at the Juvenile Detention Facility. The Knox County Sheriff emphasized the gravity of such offenses and urged parents and guardians to educate their children about the severe implications of such actions. The Sheriff also expressed gratitude for the efficient response and investigation by the Juvenile Detectives and all involved personnel.
