Revitalized Kerns Bakery Set to Unveil as Food Hall and Entertainment Hub This Spring
The historic Kerns Bakery in South Knoxville is being revitalized into the Kerns Food Hall, set to open this spring, sometime in March. This project, five years in the making, will host a variety of businesses, including food options, shops, bars, and an entertainment area.
Local business owners and city officials are eager for the opening, anticipating economic growth and community benefits. The renovation respects the bakery's heritage, keeping original elements like the old floorboards.
A key feature will be Monday Night Brewing, a brewery from Atlanta, and there's potential for pickleball in the entertainment offerings. This development is seen as a significant and exciting addition to the area.
Get Ready for Girl Scout Cookie Season!
The much-anticipated Girl Scout Cookie season is here! This is your chance to support local Girl Scouts by purchasing these delicious treats. You can buy directly from a Girl Scout or simply visit www.girlscoutcookies.org to locate cookie booths near you, searchable by ZIP code. Don't forget to check out the gluten-free and vegan options available!
Purchasing these cookies isn't just about satisfying your sweet tooth. It's a way to empower young girls in their personal and community development. The proceeds from cookie sales fund various activities, including crafts, trips, badge programs, and community service projects.
Moreover, the Girl Scouts' Gift of Caring program adds a layer of generosity to your purchase. This initiative allows customers to buy cookies that are then donated to a local beneficiary chosen by the troop. In previous years, donations have reached police officers, firefighters, food banks, and even the East Tennessee Children’s Hospital, among others. So, by indulging in these cookies, you're also contributing to a meaningful cause. Happy cookie shopping!
Potholes - How to File Damage Claims, Report Occurrences for Fixing
To report potholes on city streets, dial 311 or reach out at (865) 215-4311. Alternatively, you can conveniently file a Pothole Repair Request online by visiting the city’s official site at knoxvilletn.gov . Remember to mention the specific address or the closest intersection, so the repair team can accurately locate and address the problem.
To report potholes on Knox County roads use the SeeClickFix mobile app. This app lets you snap a photo of the pothole, pinpoint its location, and send the information directly to the Knox County Engineering and Public Works. If you prefer, you can also report these issues by calling (865) 215-5800.
To report potholes on interstates and state routes, you can call the TDOT Road Repair Hotline at (833) 836-8349, or submit an online Maintenance Request at tn.gov/tdot/maintenance/maintenance-request.html . Be sure to provide detailed location information, including the route number, mile marker, and nearby cross streets or interchanges.
To file a claim for vehicle damages due to potholes on a state road you have the option to submit a claim to the Tennessee Department of Treasury. To proceed, you'll need to demonstrate that the incident directly caused the damage, specify the location, and provide repair records. Additionally, there must be evidence that the state was previously aware of the road conditions and had the opportunity to make repairs. For more details on this process, visit the TDOT website.
