Local Youths Honored for Exemplary Contributions and Leadership by Boys and Girls Clubs
The Boys and Girls Clubs of the Tennessee Valley recently celebrated four remarkable young individuals for their outstanding contributions that embody the organization's mission. These honorees, ranging in age from 14 to 17, have made significant impacts in various areas, including volunteering at hospitals, environmental cleanup efforts, leading youth arts initiatives, and co-founding clubs focused on STEM and environmental responsibility.
Their dedication to leadership, service, academic excellence, and community betterment was recognized at the "Youth of the Year Celebration," where they also received cash awards for their achievements.
Controlled Burns Scheduled in Cades Cove
The National Park Service (NPS) plans to conduct controlled burns totaling 1,000 acres in Cades Cove, Great Smoky Mountains National Park, by the end of March, weather permitting.
While the loop road and historic structures will stay open, some road closures and visitor delays are expected. The burns aim to maintain native flora and support wildlife habitats, continuing a 20-year tradition of seasonal burns to restore meadows and preserve the area's historical landscape.
