Knox County Schools Celebrate Significant Rise in State Ratings

In a significant leap forward, Knox County Schools (KCS) has seen a remarkable improvement in state ratings. This year, the Tennessee Department of Education has recognized 24 KCS schools as reward schools, the highest accolade in the state's educational success metrics. This achievement nearly triples the district's previous count, rising from nine reward schools in 2022.

Moreover, the district overall has advanced to a "satisfactory" rating, a notable improvement over its prior classification as "in need of improvement" - a label assigned to the lowest-performing 5% of schools in Tennessee. This progress underscores the effectiveness of Knox County Schools' focus on strategic priorities and partnerships.

Ryder Integrated Logistics Announces Closure of Vonore Facility, 80 Jobs to Be Cut This Summer

This summer, the Vonore community faces a significant change as Ryder Integrated Logistics has announced the upcoming closure of its facility on Deer Crossing Road. According to a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) submitted to the Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce Development, approximately 80 employees will be impacted by the shutdown scheduled for June 30.

The notice clarifies that the layoffs will begin on June 16, leading up to the final cessation of operations at the end of the month. It is important to note that the affected workers are not covered under a collective bargaining agreement.

In response to this development, the East Local Workforce Development Area, in collaboration with the East Tennessee Human Resource Agency, has been mobilized to provide support and assistance. They will oversee the implementation of Rapid Response and Dislocated Worker Services to help those facing job loss, ensuring a coordinated effort to aid the impacted employees during this transition.

Early voting continues through Tuesday, February 27th. Check out the TN Secretary of State website for early voting location details.
