Knoxville Police Department Mourns Loss of Recruit Wisbens Antoine Ahead of Swearing-In Ceremony

The Knoxville Police Department (KPD) revealed the untimely passing of Wisbens Antoine, a promising recruit from the 2023-B Basic Recruit Class, on Sunday. Antoine, aged 32, was on the cusp of becoming a sworn officer with KPD, with his official induction scheduled for Monday, March 4th.

Joining the KPD in 2023 as a Public Safety Recruit, he embarked on his journey at the basic recruit academy in September 2023. Tragically, before his formal swearing-in, Antoine passed away.

This development came to light on Friday afternoon when, during a routine physical training session, Antoine suffered a collapse after completing a mile-and-a-half run. The collapse, for reasons still to be determined, prompted an immediate response from KPD training staff who administered CPR and other emergency interventions. Despite their efforts, Antoine was transported to the UT Medical Center by AMR, where he later passed away
