Downtown Parking Survey - Free Nights & Weekends
The City of Knoxville has engaged a consultant to review and suggest improvements for our downtown parking strategy. The city currently offers complimentary parking in municipal lots and garages after 6pm each night and throughout weekends. Additionally, street parking does not incur a charge on Sundays. The outcome of this consultancy may influence whether free parking continues in downtown Knoxville.
This survey, created by the Downtown Merchants Group, aims to assess the value and impact of our existing Free Nights and Weekends parking policy.
White Pelicans in Knoxville?
If you have spotted some white pelicans near the Tennessee River, your eyes are not playing tricks on you! This unusual occurrence could mean that Knoxville might see these grand birds more frequently during the winter seasons, providing a unique spectacle for both residents and visitors.
This phenomenon underscores the significance of preserving local water bodies and natural habitats, which support a wide range of wildlife, including species not usually seen inland.

The United Veterans Council of East Tennessee: A Pillar of Support for Veterans
The United Veterans Council of East Tennessee, Inc. stands out as a distinguished 501 (C) 3 Non-Profit organization dedicated to honoring and supporting veterans. Founded 7 years ago, this organization has made it its mission to foster collaboration among veteran organizations, support groups, and individuals passionate about veteran causes.
Led by Chris Albrecht, a U.S. Navy Veteran and an active member of the Captain Bill Robinson Chapter of Vietnam Veterans of America, the Council was born out of the collective realization that veteran organizations in East Tennessee could greatly benefit from a unified body. This unification would not only promote their activities but also amplify their ability to support each other's causes through communication and collaboration.
The United Veterans Council of East Tennessee is unique in its approach to promoting and assisting veteran groups within the region. By providing a platform for these organizations to come together, the Council enhances their visibility and effectiveness in serving the veteran community. This collaborative effort ensures that the valor and sacrifice of veterans are recognized and celebrated throughout East Tennessee.
The Council's commitment to the veteran community is evident through its involvement in various local initiatives. The Free Veterans Breakfast Project, Wreaths Across America, and the traveling pictorial memorial "Salute to Tennessee's Fallen", a tribute to those military members from Tennessee killed in action since 9/11 are just a few examples of how The United Veterans Council of East Tennessee actively engages in honoring veterans and fostering a sense of community and appreciation for their service.
While specific upcoming events and initiatives are in the planning stages, the Council is continuously working on ways to expand its support and recognition of veterans in East Tennessee. With a focus on collaboration and support, The United Veterans Council of East Tennessee, Inc. is poised to make even greater impacts in the lives of veterans and their families.
For those interested in learning more about The United Veterans Council of East Tennessee, getting involved, or seeking support, follow their activities and announcements on The United Veterans Council of East Tennessee Facebook page.
The United Veterans Council of East Tennessee is more than an organization; it's a community of heroes supporting heroes, ensuring that the legacy and needs of veterans are addressed with the respect and dedication they deserve.
