Thinking of Moving? Start Here!

I received a fantastic question this week: "We are retiring in just over two years and thinking about moving from Ohio to the Knoxville area. We have been there several times. Where do we start?"

This is such a timely question, especially with the growing number of people relocating to our beautiful region. Here's a guide to help you start planning your move to Knoxville:

1. Spend Time Exploring the Area
Before deciding where to live, immerse yourself in the Knoxville area. Visit different neighborhoods to get a feel for their unique charm and amenities. Consider what activities you enjoy and aim to settle near those. Visiting during all seasons is ideal to experience the variety in our weather and ensure you're comfortable year-round.

2. Organize and Downsize
Moving is an excellent opportunity to declutter. Take inventory of your belongings and decide what to keep, donate, or sell. Many people are surprised by how much they accumulate over the years, so start early and focus on large items that may not be worth moving.

3. Assess Your Financial Situation
As your move date approaches, speak with a lender to determine whether you need to sell your current home before purchasing a property in Tennessee. If selling first is necessary, establish a timeline and plan to list your home accordingly. This preparation ensures a smoother transition to your new home.

4. Find the Right REALTORS
Begin interviewing REALTORS in both your current state and Knoxville. Choose professionals who are knowledgeable, experienced, and attentive to your needs. A skilled REALTOR can help you navigate the complexities of selling and buying, ensuring a stress-free experience.

There are many more things that will pop up during the process, but this small list will get you started! With thoughtful preparation and the right team, your move to Knoxville can be an exciting and seamless transition.
