Business Spotlight on the Mimi JAX Collection

Mimi JAX Collection Turns an Unexpected Ending Into a Boutique Built to Inspire.
Some of the best new beginnings start with a door closing, and for Mimi Jackson, that door opened onto a closet full of possibilities.
Mimi is the owner of Mimi JAX Collection, an online women’s boutique based in Knoxville. The shop offers apparel with a boho coastal vibe: easy, affordable mix-and-match pieces in sizes small through large, with some extra large. Alongside the clothing, you’ll find waterproof, tarnish-resistant jewelry and vegan leather handbags. Orders over $100 ship free, local shoppers can arrange free porch pickup, and Mimi regularly sets up at area vendor events and hosts in-home shopping parties.
The boutique’s story begins with a hard moment. Mimi spent years as a school social worker in Knox County Schools, stayed home to raise her kids, and then returned to work as a mental health counselor for students with IEPs. In December 2025, she learned that her position would be cut at the end of the school year due to budget cuts. “I probably would have stayed in that job forever,” she says. She believes it was “God’s way and timing of pushing me to be uncomfortable.”
In February 2026, Mimi and her husband went to AmericasMart in Atlanta, a major wholesale market where boutique owners buy from apparel vendors. She went just to look around and gather ideas. She left with market orders and product on the way. From there, it snowballed: the website went up, online orders started coming in, and Mimi JAX Collection officially launched in April 2026.
The boutique’s philosophy comes straight from Mimi’s own closet. She tries never to wear a piece the same way twice. “If I look good, I feel good. And if I feel good, I do good,” she says. She knows that busy women, from working moms to stay-at-home moms, often don’t have the mental space to get creative with their wardrobes. So she curates pieces that work several ways across several seasons, then shows shoppers how in her social media styling videos. Tops and dresses sell fastest at in-person events. Online, everything moves at about the same pace. Plenty of customers shop for vacations, special events, and photo sessions, but most of the collection is made for everyday wear.
Mimi is the boutique’s only employee. She handles merchandising, ordering, website design and updates, the product catalog, social media, photography, video editing, and every order that ships. A busy week of vendor events means restocking the racks, then photographing the new pieces, adding them to the website, and posting about them. It’s been “more work than I could have ever imagined in the best way possible,” she says.
What makes it worth it? Watching women come to life in a new outfit. At in-home shopping parties, Mimi helps guests find jeans with the right rise and fit, and shows them simple tricks like a front tuck, a belt, or the right jacket layered over a top. “You see a light in them that wasn’t there before they walked in your booth,” she says. Glowing reviews, repeat customers, and first-time online shoppers who have never met her but trust her picks all make her feel “so, so lucky and grateful.”
Above all, Mimi wants shopping to feel easy, not overwhelming. Her goal is to help women find pieces that suit their bodies and lifestyles and make them feel like the best version of themselves. “That is my favorite part of the day, every day, is getting dressed, because it makes me feel so alive and valued,” she says. “And I want to pass that on to other women.”

Business Doctor Tip: Why Did You Start This Business?
John Pyron's clients nicknamed him "The Business Doctor." When you see a doctor, you want an answer, not weeks of talk. So here's a quick checkup. Ask yourself why you started your business, what you hoped to achieve, whether you still enjoy it, and whether you're on track. Most owners started their business for freedom: to do what they want, when they want, with whom they want. If your business has taken that freedom away, it's time to go back to your "why."
