Knox County School Board to Vote on Salary Increases to Align with Market Values
The Knox County School Board is planning a vote today on a significant adjustment to employee salaries to align with market values and stay competitive with neighboring districts.
The board will decide on this proposal in an upcoming meeting, with the potential salary increases set to start on July 1. This initiative is partly in response to a state law requiring a minimum $50,000 annual salary for Tennessee teachers by the 2026-27 school year.
Starting salaries under the new plan would be over $47,000 for teachers with a bachelor's degree and almost $51,000 for those with a master's. The adjustment aims to aid in recruitment and retention, costing $39 million, with $28 million designated for teacher salaries.
