TDOT Launches Major Upgrade for East Tennessee's Busiest Interstate Stretch

The Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) has unveiled plans to enhance a 17-mile stretch of Interstate 40 in East Tennessee, known for its heavy traffic, including the country's busiest weigh station.

This project is part of a broader initiative made possible by the Transportation Improvement Act, which facilitates public-private partnerships and aims to improve statewide road infrastructure.

The focus will be on comprehensive corridor improvements, with particular attention to areas like Watt Road and Campbell Station. This effort comes in response to the critical need for better road conditions in one of Tennessee's most trafficked sections, with planning phases considering future enhancements such as toll express lanes.

The project aims to alleviate congestion, improve safety, and is seen as a significant step forward in the state's infrastructure development.

150 East Tennesseans Embrace U.S. Citizenship in Knoxville Ceremony

About 150 individuals from East Tennessee were naturalized as U.S. citizens during a ceremony at the Knoxville City County Building on Thursday. These new citizens, originating from approximately 45 different countries, can now enjoy benefits such as applying for a U.S. passport, registering to vote, and sponsoring family members for U.S. residency.

Achieving citizenship is the result of a demanding process that includes providing biometric data, undergoing interviews, taking an Oath of Allegiance, and passing tests in English proficiency and U.S. civics. Applicants failing the initial test have a chance to retake it within 60 to 90 days of their first interview.

Educators and staff within Knox County Schools are poised for an uplift in their salaries, following a unanimous decision by the Board of Education on Thursday.

This decision, rooted in the recommendations of an independent study, is set to enhance the pay scales of teachers and administrators across the district.
