Are Fireworks Legal in Knox County? What to Know Before the 4th of July

With Independence Day just around the corner, many residents are preparing to celebrate with fireworks. However, it’s crucial to understand the regulations governing fireworks use in Knox County. Permit Requirement: Fireworks cannot be used in Knox County without first obtaining a permit from the state and approval from the county. Failure to secure the necessary permits before setting off fireworks can result in a Class 1 misdemeanor which can carry fines of up to $1,000 and/or imprisonment for up to six months. Tennessee law prohibits children under the age of 16 from purchasing fireworks. Individuals who are 16 or 17 years old must present a photo ID to purchase fireworks.

TWRA to Conduct Boating Safety Checkpoints this weekend

Checkpoints will be near Sailboat Cove on Fort Loudoun Lake and by Norris Dam. As part of the summer boating safety initiative, the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency (TWRA) reminds all boaters to adhere to essential safety regulations. According to TWRA spokesperson Matt Cameron, the following items are required on board:

  • Life Jackets: Ensure there is a life jacket for every passenger.

  • Throwable Flotation Device: Have a floatable device to assist anyone struggling in the water.

  • Fire Extinguisher: Keep a fire extinguisher onboard for emergencies.

Additionally, children under 12 years old must wear a life jacket while the boat is in motion. Boaters are also required to have their boat’s registration on board at all times.

Stay safe and enjoy the water responsibly this summer!
