Knoxville's 2024 International Overdose Awareness Day

Metro Drug Coalition is honored to host Knoxville’s 2024 International Overdose Awareness Day on August 30th (2pm - 7pm) at the Knoxville Convention Center. This event is a time to remember those we've lost to overdose, offer support to those in recovery, and celebrate the strength of our community.

  • Resource Fair: Connect with local organizations offering support, education, and resources related to overdose prevention and recovery.

  • Proclamations by City and County Mayors: Hear powerful words from our local leaders as they recognize the significance of this day and reaffirm their commitment to tackling the overdose crisis.

  • Memorial Service: We will gather to honor the memory of those who have lost their lives to overdose, offering a space for reflection, healing, and unity.

All proceeds from this event will benefit Metro Drug Coalition’s Recovery Housing Support Fund. This fund is crucial for individuals who are in the early stages of recovery and need financial assistance to access safe and supportive housing, giving them the opportunity to rebuild their lives in a nurturing environment.

Join us in this important event to raise awareness, remember loved ones, and support those on their journey to recovery. Together, we can make a difference in our community. More Info

Discover Native Birds in Their Natural Habitats

Join us for an immersive birdwatching experience at Seven Islands, where native birds thrive in their natural habitats. Ranger Clare will guide you on a hike through diverse ecosystems, from dense woodlands to serene ponds and expansive fields, as we seek out the birds that call these places home.

  • Woodpeckers in the Woods: Listen for the rhythmic drumming of woodpeckers as we venture into the forest, where these birds excavate tree trunks in search of insects.

  • Ducks on the Pond: Discover the waterfowl that inhabit the park's ponds, gliding gracefully across the water's surface.

  • Bobwhite Quail in the Fields: As we traverse open fields, keep an eye out for the elusive bobwhite quail, a species known for its distinctive call.

Understanding the relationship between birds and their preferred habitats is a key aspect of birding. Ranger Clare will share insights on why certain species are drawn to specific environments and how these habitats are crucial for their survival.
