Experience Cherokee Culture at the 33rd Annual Cherokee Fall Festival

The Sequoyah Birthplace Museum, Tennessee’s only tribally owned museum located in Vonore, is thrilled to host its 33rd annual Cherokee Fall Festival on September 7th and 8th. The festival runs from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. each day, offering a unique opportunity to step back in time and immerse yourself in the rich culture and history of the Cherokee people.

Visitors will enjoy a wide range of activities, including demonstrations of Native American food preparation, Cherokee arts and crafts, and traditional music and dance performances. One of the highlights inside the museum will be a demonstration of the 1800s Acorn Printing Press. Additionally, a blacksmith will be showcasing their skills with on-site demonstrations in the shop both days. The festival will also feature displays depicting Cherokee life in the 1700s and a Civil War reenactment, providing a deep dive into different historical periods.

Attendees will have the chance to meet and converse with members of the Cherokee Nation from Oklahoma and the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians from North Carolina. The Warrior Dancers of Ani-Kituhwa, official ambassadors of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians, will provide special entertainment throughout the event. Be sure to visit the reconstructed 1800s dog-trot log cabin, meet Miss Cherokee, and even have your name written in Cherokee.

For younger visitors, there will be a children's blowgun competition, while adults can test their skills in their own blowgun competition on both days. Traditional Indian fry bread, Indian tacos, and other food and drinks will be available for purchase, adding a delicious taste of Cherokee cuisine to the experience.

This event is funded in part by the Tennessee Arts Commission Rural Arts Program Grant and the Eastern Band of the Cherokee Indians.
