Oak Ridge Street Painting Festival

Join the Oak Ridge community on Saturday, October 5, 2024, for the Oak Ridge Street Painting Festival, a vibrant celebration of art and generosity! This annual event, held at Roane State Community College's Oak Ridge Branch Campus, raises money for scholarships that help students achieve their educational goals while supporting a skilled workforce for local businesses.

For the past 25 years Roane State has awarded over 100 scholarships, totaling more than $200,000. By participating in this festival, you’ll be contributing to a legacy that helps students thrive.

The festival invites local artists of all ages to showcase their talents. Chalk, supplies, and prizes will be provided, with categories for all ages, including families. Whether you’re a seasoned artist or just want to have fun, this is a perfect opportunity to get creative!

In addition to the street art, the festival will feature live music starting at 10 AM, games, and local vendors for everyone to enjoy throughout the day. Chalking begins at 8 AM, so bring your family, friends, and creativity for a day full of fun and community spirit.

The best part? There is no charge to participate. Just show up ready to paint the streets and support a great cause! More Info

AI and the Future of Video Games: An Actor’s View

Join us on Wednesday, October 23, 2024, from 4 PM to 5:30 PM, for a thought-provoking discussion on how AI is poised to transform the world of video games. Will AI enhance the games we love, or will it strip them of their emotional depth and humanity? What impact will it have on the people behind the games—actors, artists, and coders?

Noshir Dalal, an accomplished actor and performer, will share his perspective on these questions. Currently on strike with SAG-AFTRA against the gaming industry, Dalal will discuss both the challenges and opportunities that AI presents, as well as how the industry might navigate this evolving landscape.

This event is part of the Digital Games Research Seminar, hosted by the Denbo Center for Humanities & the Arts. It will be held at the Nielsen Physics Building, Room 415, located at 1408 Circle Drive, Knoxville, TN 37996.

About the Speaker:

Noshir Dalal is an Atlanta-based actor known for his performance capture work in some of the most popular video games of the last decade. He is best recognized for his roles as Charles Smith in Red Dead Redemption II, Kotallo in Horizon Forbidden West, and Bode in Star Wars: Jedi Survivor. His other notable credits include Ghost of Tsushima, Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, Death Stranding, and The Outer Worlds. Dalal holds a degree in cognitive brain science from the University of Rochester and is a member of SAG-AFTRA. More Info
