Knox County’s BLOOM Initiative: Less Mowing, More Growing!

Are you ready to give up a little mowing to help the environment? Knox County is!

Knox County Parks and Recreation has launched a new initiative to reduce its carbon footprint while creating more beautiful and functional spaces for the community.

Introducing BLOOM—Beautifying Local Outdoor Spaces withOut Mowing. This program aims to reduce mowing by 25%, which will not only cut carbon emissions but also build healthier soil and enhance pollinator habitats for bees and other beneficial species.

By eliminating invasive species and planting native greenery, BLOOM helps restore the natural balance, improve air quality, and create thriving ecosystems right here in Knox County. It’s a win-win for both the environment and the community!

A few local native plants to consider for your own space include purple lovegrass, thimbleweed, butterfly weed, common milkweed, sunchoke, smooth aster, blue mistflower, and black-eyed Susan. These plants support local wildlife and add natural beauty to your landscape. More Info
