Call for Video Auditions: 2025 Scruffy City Orchestra Concerto Competition

Scruffy City Orchestra is now accepting video audition submissions for its 2025 Concerto Competition, open to high school students and young adults up to age 25 from East Tennessee and surrounding areas. This year’s competition is specifically for woodwind, brass, and percussion players, with winners earning the opportunity to perform with the orchestra at the fall concert held at the Cathedral of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus in Knoxville.

The submission deadline is midnight on Monday, June 2, and all entries must be submitted via video.

Now in its 10th year, the Scruffy City Orchestra continues to promote music arts throughout the region under the direction of Dr. Ace Edewards.

Honoring Vietnam Veterans: 50th Anniversary Wreath-Laying Ceremony

On Thursday, April 24 at 3:00 PM, a special wreath-laying ceremony will take place at the Vietnam War Monument at the East Tennessee Veterans Memorial in World’s Fair Park, commemorating the 50th anniversary of the end of the Vietnam War.

This solemn tribute is part of a nationwide remembrance, with simultaneous ceremonies being held at locations across the country, including the Vietnam Veterans Memorial (“The Wall”) in Washington, D.C.

The ceremony in Knoxville will include remarks from Rev. Pat Polis, immediate Past-President of the Captain Bill Robinson Chapter 1078 of Vietnam Veterans of America.

The public is encouraged to attend this moment of honor and reflection as we remember the service and sacrifice of Vietnam veterans.
