Peace of Mind At Home: A Source of Support for Cancer Patients and Their Caregivers

A Maryville organization stands out for its unique dedication to providing tangible, practical support to those affected by cancer. Peace of Mind At Home, a nonprofit organization, is revolutionizing the way support is delivered to cancer patients and their caregivers in the Greater Knoxville Area.
Founded in January, 2023 by Kate Wogoman & Ellen Ritchey, Peace of Mind At Home evolved from a for-profit entity, Peace of Mind Foothills, which initially offered help to busy families. Ellen, whose mother fought breast cancer, worked alongside Kate with Peace of Mind Foothills. She saw the model Kate was using and asked if she’d ever considered moving it to a nonprofit for local cancer patients and their families. It was a no-brainer! Recognizing this deeper need, Kate & Ellen transitioned the organization to focus on assisting cancer patients and their caregivers, partnering with the University of Tennessee Medical Center’s Cancer Institute to ensure those in the throes of cancer treatment receive much-needed support.
Peace of Mind At Home is committed to providing practical help in ways that truly matter. "We are the only nonprofit in this area that provides help in a tangible way to cancer patients and their caregivers," says Kate. This assistance comes in various forms, tailored to the needs of individuals grappling with the challenges of cancer, and is facilitated through referrals from social workers, oncology and radiology nurses and doctors at the Cancer Institute.
The community's response has been overwhelmingly positive, with ongoing support through fundraising events and donations. The organization's flagship event, a sold-out golf tournament, exemplifies the community's robust engagement and support. Additionally, an upcoming fundraiser - Sip for a Cause Soirée will be held on Friday, November 7th at 7pm. At the Soiree, heavy hors d'oeuvres will be served along with wines and beers donated by local restaurants. There will be a live band and a Silent Auction. This event will be held at Grand Valley Farm - a new venue to the Knoxville scene. Check out the Peace of Mind At Home website to purchase tickets starting in July.
Peace of Mind At Home is not resting on its laurels. With plans for further fundraisers and community events, the organization is on a trajectory to expand its impact. They have a number of events lined up that promise to not only raise funds but also awareness about their mission.
They are dedicated to their mission, armed with the belief that practical support can make a monumental difference in the lives of those facing cancer.
Peace of Mind At Home is more than a nonprofit; it's a testament to the power of community and compassion in the face of life's most challenging battles.
