Celebrating the Spirit of Freedom
Each year on July 4th, Americans come together in cities and small towns across the nation to celebrate Independence Day—an enduring symbol of liberty, unity, and the birth of a nation. But the heart of this patriotic holiday beats back to 1776, when 56 courageous delegates of the Continental Congress signed the Declaration of Independence, boldly proclaiming freedom from British rule.
Crafted primarily by Thomas Jefferson, the Declaration laid the foundation for a nation built on the ideals of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. It was a daring act of rebellion and vision, and it marked the beginning of the American experiment in democracy.
Today, we honor those ideals with fireworks that light up the skies, parades that march through Main Streets, and gatherings of family and friends—just as John Adams envisioned when he wrote that the day should be celebrated “with pomp and parade… bonfires and illuminations.”
As the red, white, and blue fly high each Fourth of July, we’re reminded not just of our freedom, but of the generations who have defended it and the responsibility we all share to keep that spirit alive. Independence Day is more than a holiday—it's a celebration of who we are and what we stand for as Americans.
