Spotlight on East Tennessee Kidney Foundation

The East Tennessee Kidney Foundation (ETKF) stands as a testament to community resilience and dedication. Established in 2010, ETKF emerged from the urgent need for local kidney disease support services after the unexpected closure of a national foundation's local office. With a mission deeply rooted in the community, ETKF has committed to remaining 100% local, focusing primarily on providing essential services to East Tennesseans suffering from kidney disease.

ETKF's cornerstone is its comprehensive patient support, especially through its Dianne Hagey Dialysis Transportation Program, which aids around 200 patients monthly across 25 counties. Understanding the critical nature of consistent dialysis, they ensure that transportation hurdles do not hinder patient care. Moreover, their Dental Assistance Program and Nutritional Supplement Program address other vital aspects of patient health, necessary for both quality of life and eligibility for transplant waiting lists.

Independently operated, they rely solely on local grants, donations, and community fundraisers. This model not only underscores its commitment to local resources but also ensures that the programs reflect and respond to the community's needs. Regular support from local United Way Agencies and the heartwarming community response highlight the foundation's integral role in local health and wellness.

ETKF is not only a lifeline for medical needs but also for community involvement and education. Their outreach extends into local schools and public forums, raising awareness about kidney health and disease prevention. The foundation's major fundraising events, like the annual Knox Shamrock Fest™ and the Lucky Kidney Run™, blend community engagement with critical fundraising, ensuring continued support for their programs.

Their next event is Golfing for Kidneys, to be held on Thursday, 9/18 from 2pm - 5pm at TopGolf. For more information or to sign up, visit www.etkidney.org/events/golf/.

The East Tennessee Kidney Foundation invites all residents and businesses to join in their mission - whether through participation in events, volunteering, or contributions. Every effort counts towards making a significant impact in the lives of local residents affected by kidney disease.

For more information or to get involved, contact Alexandra Anderson at [email protected] or visit www.etkidney.org. Your support helps ensure that no one in East Tennessee faces kidney disease alone.
