Jim McNutt Designs Brings Wood to Life

For over 49 years, Jim McNutt Designs has been crafting more than just furniture—they’ve been creating heirloom-quality works of art. This local business is where timeless craftsmanship meets artistic vision.
Jim McNutt, a lifelong Knoxvillian whose family has called the area home since the 1700s, studied woodcraft at Arrowmont School in Gatlinburg and honed his skills in studios across North Carolina. He apprenticed with Wood Art Co. in the 1980s, and since then, has developed a signature style known for its sculptural furniture and unique interior wood designs. Every piece is meticulously handcrafted using beautiful hardwoods sourced from around the world—and backed by a 50-year warranty.
Jim doesn’t just design furniture—he creates customized, one-of-a-kind interiors and furnishings that reflect the personality of each client. From hardwood mantels to dramatic accent walls, his work transforms everyday spaces into showcases of natural beauty and thoughtful design.
Beyond the shop, Jim and his team are deeply involved in the community, supporting local efforts like Emerald Youth Foundation, Cokesbury Church’s Fig Tree outreach, and offering free woodworking classes for beginners. It’s this blend of artistry, service, and heart that sets Jim McNutt Designs apart.
