Ugly Sweaters, Holiday Trivia, and Big Laughs at Sweet P’s

Get ready for a night of laughs, friendly competition, and some truly questionable fashion choices when Ugly Sweater Trivia Night takes over Sweet P’s on December 23rd at 7 PM. This holiday-themed trivia event is the perfect excuse to round up your friends, pull out your most outrageously festive sweater, and enjoy a fun, laid-back evening just days before Christmas.

Hosted at Sweet P’s on Tazewell Pike, the night will feature holiday-inspired trivia questions designed to challenge both seasoned trivia pros and casual players who are just there for the laughs. Whether you know every reindeer by name or you’re simply showing up for the food and holiday vibes, everyone is welcome to join in on the fun.

Expect plenty of cheer, good-natured competition, and lots of laughs as teams battle it out while rocking their ugliest holiday attire. It’s a great way to kick off the final stretch of the season—no pressure, just festive fun, great barbecue, and a room full of people ready to celebrate together.

So grab your friends, don your most gloriously hideous sweater, and head to Sweet P’s for a holiday trivia night that’s equal parts cozy, competitive, and downright fun.

Create Cozy Holiday Glow at the Cracking Wood Wick Workshop

If you’re looking for a relaxing, hands-on way to slow down before Christmas, Walnut Springs Winery (1175 Midway Rd, Strawberry Plains) is hosting a Cracking Wood Wick Workshop that blends creativity, cozy vibes, and seasonal cheer. This festive class invites guests to craft their own crackling wood-wick candle—perfect as a last-minute gift or a calming treat to enjoy at home during the holidays.

Held on Sunday, December 21st at 2 pm, the workshop guides participants step by step through the candle-making process. You’ll choose from Christmas-themed fragrance blends and learn how to pour a smooth, beautifully scented candle topped with a soothing crackling wick that mimics the sound of a tiny fireplace. Each guest leaves with one handcrafted candle and the know-how to appreciate the craft behind it.

While your candle sets, you’re invited to relax in the warm, holiday-lit winery atmosphere and enjoy food, wine, cider, or seasonal cocktails available for purchase. Seats are limited and these popular holiday workshops often sell out, so reserving a spot ahead of time is encouraged for anyone wanting to add a little handmade magic to the season.

Christmas Day Festive Feast at the Crowne Plaza Christmas Buffet

The annual Christmas Buffet returns to the Crowne Plaza Knoxville Downtown University on Thursday, December 25th, from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. This elegant and welcoming buffet is designed for families, friends, and visitors looking to enjoy a relaxed yet indulgent Christmas meal in the heart of downtown Knoxville.

Guests can look forward to an abundant spread that blends holiday favorites with elevated chef-crafted selections. The buffet begins with comforting soups and fresh salads, including French onion soup, mixed greens, and seasonal specialty salads featuring pears, beets, citrus, and house-made dressings. Breakfast favorites like made-to-order omelets, crispy bacon, sausage, and Liege waffles with warm maple syrup ensure there’s something for everyone, even late risers.

Seafood lovers will appreciate chilled oysters on the half shell, Old Bay poached shrimp, and smoked trout, while the entrée lineup delivers true holiday indulgence. Carved prime rib, brown sugar pit ham, rosemary turkey with gravy and cranberry chutney, roast salmon, and balsamic-cranberry chicken thighs anchor a menu filled with comforting sides such as creamy mashed potatoes, green bean almondine, mac and cheese, cornbread stuffing, and caramelized vegetables.

No Christmas meal would be complete without dessert, and this buffet does not disappoint. A tempting selection includes red velvet trifle, cherry-dressed cheesecake, peppermint whoopie pies, pecan pie, warm chocolate cake, winter berry crumble, and a festive hot chocolate bar to finish the meal on a sweet note.

Pricing is $58.95 for adults, $26.95 for children ages 6–12, and free for children under 6, plus tax and a 20% gratuity. Reservations are strongly encouraged and can be made by calling (865) 522-2600.

Whether you’re continuing a family tradition or starting a new one, the Crowne Plaza Knoxville Christmas Buffet offers a warm, flavorful way to celebrate the holiday—no cooking required.

An Exclusive Buffalo Trace Whiskey Experience at 35 North

If you’ve been waiting for a truly next-level tasting experience, 35 North Bar & Grill is hosting an advanced class that rarely comes around.

On January 27th, at 6:00 p.m., guests are invited to the Buffalo Trace Wheaters & Ryes Course #423, an in-depth whiskey tasting focused on some of the most sought-after and difficult-to-find bottles produced by Buffalo Trace Distillery. This is not an introductory class—this course is designed for experienced bourbon fans who want to explore elite wheated and rye expressions in a guided, educational setting.

The lineup includes legendary pours such as Pappy Van Winkle, Weller Antique 107, C.Y.P.B., and Thomas H. Handy Rye—whiskies that are notoriously hard to find and often priced far out of reach by the glass. The class offers a rare opportunity to taste and compare these bottles while learning what makes wheated bourbons and ryes so distinctive, from mash bills and aging to flavor profiles and collectability.

Held at 35 North Bar & Grill, the evening combines expert instruction with an intimate, upscale atmosphere perfect for serious whiskey appreciation. Whether you’re expanding your palate or checking off bucket-list pours, this class delivers an experience few bourbon fans get the chance to enjoy.

Tickets are limited and available through 35 North’s events page (scroll to January 27th to purchase). With the holidays approaching, this tasting also makes an exceptional Christmas gift for the whiskey enthusiast who truly has everything—except a chance to sip these iconic bottles side by side. Ways to Help Our Neighbors After the Collective at Sutherland Fire

A recent fire at the Collective at Sutherland Apartments displaced multiple families, leaving them without many of the basic necessities of daily life. As neighbors work to rebuild and stabilize in the days ahead, the community has an opportunity to make an immediate, tangible impact through donated goods.

Organizers are currently collecting essential items for adults, children, and pets. Needed donations include children’s boys’ and girls’ clothing in sizes 6 and 7, along with children’s shoes in sizes 10 and 12. Adult needs include women’s shirts and jackets in small, medium, and XXL; women’s pants in small, medium, and XXL; and women’s shoes in sizes 6, 7, 7.5, 8, and 8.5. Men’s shirts and jackets are needed in large, medium, and extra-large, along with men’s pants in medium, large, and XL (34×36), and men’s shoes in sizes 10, 9, and 13.

Additional high-need items include new socks and underwear in all sizes, winter jackets and sweaters, gloves, scarves, hats, blankets, and pillows. Everyday necessities such as toilet paper, paper towels, kitchen items, shower items, toothbrushes, toothpaste, and deodorant are also requested. Donations of dog and cat food, as well as toys for children, are welcome to help restore a sense of normalcy for families affected.

All donations can be dropped off at Collective at Sutherland Fitness Center / Leasing Office, located at 1505 Greenbrier Ridge Way. Drop-off hours are Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., and Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

For those looking for a meaningful way to help close to home, donating these much-needed items is a direct way to support neighbors during an incredibly difficult time. Every contribution helps families take one more step toward recovery.
