Read City Kicks Off 2026 with a Dino-Sized Adventure

The 2026 Read City season is about to roar to life with a prehistoric-themed kickoff the whole family will love. The Read City Kickoff: Stomp, Roar, Dinosaur!  takes place January 24th, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Bridgewater Place (205 Bridgewater Road) and marks the start of another year of reading, learning, and community fun.

This year’s kickoff features hands-on excitement from the Traveling Dinos Museum, where attendees can explore fossils, exhibits, and impressive dinosaur skeleton replicas. Visitors will come face-to-face with a velociraptor, see a full-size allosaurus skull replica, and even compare their hand size to a massive allosaurus footprint. Adding to the experience are stunning paleo-art murals by Disney artist Phil Wilson, bringing ancient worlds vividly to life.

After touring the museum, families can continue the adventure at the Dinobrary and enjoy prehistoric-themed activities hosted by the Library, Hands On! Discovery Center, and Zoo Knoxville. It’s an interactive, educational experience designed to spark curiosity and a love of reading in learners of all ages.

Glenn Jacobs will officially launch the first Read City challenge of 2026, Stomp Back in Time! Be sure to grab a Time Travel Passport at the event to participate. This first challenge runs January 24th–March 8th, followed by ROAR into a Story from May 16th–August 9th, and DINOSAUR Fossils Galore closing out the year October 12th–November 22nd.

With dinosaurs, books, and hands-on discovery, the Read City Kickoff is a fun and memorable way to start the year. Families are encouraged to come ready to explore, read, and stomp back in time together.
