You are invited to gather for the Annual Chinese New Year Open House Celebration on February 28th, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Balanced You Clinic (6512 Baum Drive, Suite 12). This community-centered event celebrates the arrival of the Year of the Fire Horse with an afternoon focused on connection, nourishment, and renewal.

Hosted by the Balanced You Clinic team, the open house offers a welcoming space to slow down, connect, and mark the new lunar year together. Guests will have the opportunity to meet and greet Balanced You practitioners, connect with local vendors, and enjoy light snacks and tea curated specifically for the season and celebration. The atmosphere is designed to feel relaxed, inviting both longtime clients and first-time visitors to take part.

In addition to food, drinks, and shopping, attendees can enjoy raffles and giveaways throughout the event. The celebration also highlights the symbolic energy of the Fire Horse—often associated with strength, momentum, and transformation. Guests will have the chance to learn how to harness that “fire” in a balanced way, protecting their energy while setting intentions for a year rooted in clarity and action.

Whether you come to learn more about Balanced You Clinic, support local vendors, or simply enjoy the spirit of the season, the event provides a thoughtful and uplifting way to step into 2026 together.

A growing variety of chair-based and low-impact fitness classes are helping older adults and individuals with mobility challenges stay active, social, and confident—and there is strong interest in bringing these classes to the Powell Community Center if the community would like them.

Led by experienced instructor Tricia Seivers, these fitness classes are thoughtfully designed to meet participants exactly where they are physically, offering multiple levels that focus on strength, balance, coordination, and overall well-being in a supportive, welcoming environment.

The most accessible option is an all-chair fitness class, often called Sit to Be Fit. This class is entirely seated and uses very light hand weights. It is ideal for individuals with limited mobility and has proven especially beneficial for participants living with dementia or Parkinson’s disease. Beyond physical movement, the class emphasizes social interaction and engagement, making it a meaningful experience for those who may otherwise have few opportunities to stay active.

A second level blends seated exercises with optional standing work beside the chair. Known as Everyday Fitness, this class incorporates resistance bands, light weights, or no equipment at all, allowing participants to modify movements based on comfort or recovery needs. The class includes muscle strengthening, balance work, coordination exercises, and a gentle aerobic dance segment performed in place. This level is currently offered at the O’Conner Senior Center and has been well received by participants seeking functional movement without high impact.

The most advanced option, Functional Fitness, builds on the same foundation while adding more balance challenges and movement around the room. Participants travel safely through guided exercises and enjoy a more dynamic aerobic portion. Monthly challenges—such as squats or wall push-ups—help participants build strength gradually and track their progress over time. Like the other classes, this level remains adaptable, allowing participants to use bands, light weights, or bodyweight only.

Currently, these classes are offered at local senior centers throughout the week, serving a wide range of fitness levels and needs. Expanding into the Powell Community Center would allow even more residents to benefit from these accessible, inclusive programs—especially those seeking a safe, encouraging way to stay active close to home.

Community members interested in seeing these classes offered in Powell are encouraged to reach out and express their interest. Feedback from residents plays an important role in determining future class locations and schedules.

Hosted by The Collective Trading Co., LLC, this special Valentine’s edition of Knoxville’s premier monthly card show blends collectibles, community, and fun in a family-friendly atmosphere. With more than 30 expert vendors on site, attendees can browse a carefully curated selection of sports cards, trading card games, and collectibles ranging from modern favorites to rare vintage finds.

The event features sports cards across nearly every major league—including NFL, NBA, MLB, NHL, soccer, UFC, wrestling, and more—alongside popular trading card games such as Pokémon, Magic: The Gathering, Yu-Gi-Oh!, Lorcana, One Piece, and Dragon Ball Super.
