River & Rail Theatre Company Presents Tuesdays With Morrie

You are invited to experience a powerful and heartfelt stage adaptation of Tuesdays With Morrie as River & Rail Theatre Company brings the beloved story to life now through February 8th at St. Gregory the Great Auditorium at Knoxville Catholic High School.

Based on the bestselling memoir by Mitch Albom and adapted for the stage by Jeffrey Hatcher and Albom, Tuesdays With Morrie tells the moving true story of a once-career-driven journalist who reconnects with his former college professor, Morrie Schwartz, after learning he is living with ALS, a progressive neurodegenerative disease. What begins as a simple visit soon becomes a weekly journey of shared wisdom, personal reflection, and life lessons that resonate deeply with audiences of all ages.

The Knoxville production features an exceptional cast led by Tony Award winner Len Cariou (best known for Sweeney Todd and Blue Bloods) and actor Chris Domig, whose real-life friendship mirrors the powerful bond at the heart of the play. Both performers bring honesty, warmth, and emotional depth to this poignant story of friendship, mortality, and what it means to live a meaningful life. More Info

Celebrate Setsubun with a Bean-Throwing Party

You are invited to ring in the Japanese seasonal tradition of Setsubun with a celebration at the Bean-Throwing Party: Setsubun on February 8th, from 1:30 PM – 3:30 PM at the East Tennessee History Center (601 S. Gay Street).

Setsubun marks the transition from winter to spring in Japan and is traditionally celebrated with mamemaki—the act of throwing roasted soybeans to chase away bad luck and welcome good fortune. At this interactive event, guests of all ages will get to experience the tradition firsthand in a fun, family-friendly setting.

In addition to the bean-throwing activity, attendees can enjoy a Setsubun-themed craft and sample futomaki (thick sushi rolls), a customary food associated with the holiday. The afternoon blends cultural learning with lighthearted fun, making it a great way to introduce kids—and curious adults—to Japanese traditions through movement, creativity, and food.

Admission is $10 per person, and space is limited to 60 participants, so advance registration is encouraged.

If you’re looking for a unique winter activity that’s festive, cultural, and a little bit silly—in the best way—this Setsubun celebration is a perfect way to welcome the coming of spring. More Info & Tickets
