Knoxville residents of all ages are invited to take part in a hands-on effort to strengthen the city’s green spaces during a Community Tree Planting hosted by Trees Knoxville on February 21st, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Malcolm Martin Park (1737 Reynolds St.).

This family-friendly volunteer event brings neighbors, community members, foresters, and arborists together to plant more than 30 new trees across the 17-acre park, helping expand Knoxville’s urban canopy and support long-term environmental resilience. Volunteers of all experience levels are welcome, and no prior tree-planting knowledge is required. Trees Knoxville will provide all tools, gloves, and on-site guidance.

The planting will focus on increasing shade, cooling public spaces, improving stormwater absorption, and enhancing wildlife habitat—benefits that directly support public health and neighborhood livability. As Knoxville faces increasing pressure from development, aging trees, and stronger weather events, projects like this play a critical role in protecting the city’s future.

To keep volunteers warm and energized, Remedy Coffee will provide hot coffee during the event, followed by hot soup from Potchke Deli after planting. Participants are encouraged to wear closed-toe shoes and bring a reusable water bottle.
