Ride, Learn & Grow - Lessons at Weeping Willow Miniatures

Weeping Willow Miniatures provides year-round lessons in both English and Western riding disciplines for riders of all ages and experience levels — from beginners just getting started to more advanced riders seeking to refine their skills. Lessons are available on full-size horses as well as Miniature Horses, including performance lessons focused on specialized skills like driving or in-hand obstacle work.

The program begins with 30-minute private lessons, during which experienced instructors assess each student’s progress and help determine when it’s time to join a larger group lesson with riders of similar abilities. This personalized approach ensures students build confidence and competence at their own pace.

Once enrolled, riders receive a consistent weekly lesson schedule, meaning you’ll always have a dedicated time reserved to work toward your goals. In addition to mounted instruction, students also gain valuable horsemanship knowledge, including horse care, grooming, tacking, and stable etiquette — skills that strengthen your bond with horses beyond the saddle.

Programs are available through monthly subscriptions that include access to weekly riding lessons, unmounted group horsemanship classes, and community support through a private online group — ideal for riders and parents alike. Whether you’re just getting started or looking to take your riding to the next level, the lessons at Weeping Willow Miniatures provide structured coaching and community in a friendly, encouraging environment. Step Back in Time with Beginner Blacksmithing at Ramsey House

Ever wanted to try your hand at blacksmithing? Here’s your chance to experience one of history’s most time-honored crafts in an authentic setting.

Historic Ramsey House is hosting a Beginner Blacksmithing class on March 7th, from 9:30 AM to 4:00 PM, at 2614 Thorngrove Pike.

This introductory course is designed for adults ages 18 and up who are curious about the art of forging metal by hand. Limited to just six participants per class, the small group format allows for personalized instruction as you learn foundational blacksmithing techniques. Participants will practice shaping heated metal at the anvil and create their own hand-forged pieces — such as hooks, nails, or keychains — to take home.

The class includes a break for lunch at noon, and lunch will be provided. Organizers ask participants to notify them of any dietary restrictions in advance.

In addition to the March 7 session, additional classes are scheduled for May 30 and June 13. The cost is $140 per person, or $110 for Historic Ramsey House members.

Whether you’re interested in traditional crafts, hands-on learning, or simply looking for a unique way to spend a Saturday, this workshop offers an immersive experience in a historic setting. Participants will not only leave with finished projects but also with a deeper appreciation for a craft that shaped early American life.

Spots are limited, so early registration is encouraged for those ready to spark the forge and learn something new. More Info & Register

Build Real-World Skills at the Code 7 Tactical Defensive Handgun Class

If you carry a handgun or simply want to improve your firearm handling abilities, Code 7 Tactical is offering a focused, full-day training experience designed to build confidence and capability under pressure. Their Defensive Handgun class takes place on March 28th, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM at the Windrock Shooting Range & Training Center in Oliver Springs.

This isn’t a basic, slow-paced introduction — it’s a hands-on, practical course built for people who want meaningful skill development with real-world application. According to the training description, participants will focus on drawing confidently from a holster, moving with purpose, transitioning between targets, reloading efficiently, and clearing malfunctions under pressure. By incorporating movement and decision-making into the drills, the class aims to give students experience handling a handgun in dynamic situations rather than static range practice.

Students also learn how to break common habits and replace them with repeatable, deliberate actions that build competence and confidence. The course is structured to support shooters of varying experience levels — whether you’re a civilian with a concealed carry permit, a regular range participant, or someone looking to push beyond the basics. Many past students report feeling more confident and in control after training.

Class size is kept limited so instructors can provide individualized coaching, and safety protocols are emphasized throughout the day. Participants are expected to bring a modern semi-automatic handgun, a minimum of 400 rounds of ammunition, a secure holster (inside or outside the waistband), at least three magazines, protective eyewear and hearing protection, and appropriate outdoor gear for a full day on the range.

This Defensive Handgun class is part of Code 7 Tactical’s larger lineup of firearm-safety and training courses, which are designed to help people shoot with intention and confidence — not just own a firearm, but be able to use it safely and effectively if called upon.

Whether you’re preparing for daily carry, sharpening your skills, or simply gaining peace of mind through structured training, this class offers intensive, practical instruction in a supportive and professional environment. More Info
