Volunteers Needed for 37th Annual Ijams River Rescue

Knoxville’s waterways are getting a spring cleanup — and the community is invited to help. Ijams Nature Center is seeking volunteers for the 37th annual Ijams River Rescue on March 21st, from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM, with a weather backup date scheduled for March 28th.

This beloved annual event brings together hundreds of individuals, families, Scout troops, businesses, and church groups to remove trash and debris from sites along the Tennessee River, as well as local creeks and streams across Knox, Anderson, and Blount counties. Organizers are working to fill approximately 500 volunteer spots across 36 cleanup sites, making it one of the region’s largest community environmental efforts.

Last year alone, 518 volunteers removed more than 17 tons of trash, along with tires, appliances, and other debris from area waterways. Events like River Rescue not only improve the environment but also help protect wildlife habitats and create cleaner recreational spaces for the community.

Volunteers of all ages are welcome, and site captains will be present at each location to provide guidance. Cleanup supplies - including gloves, bags, and tools - will be provided. Participants will also receive a free event t-shirt featuring this year’s design by Stephen Lyn Bales.

Registration is required and typically fills quickly. The deadline to sign up is March 15th, or until all spots are filled. More Info & Sign Up

Women’s Healing Retreat Offers Support and Renewal

Healing Hearts Counseling is hosting a powerful and restorative experience designed specifically for women navigating the deep emotional impact of betrayal. The Women’s Healing Retreat: Recovering from Betrayal will take place April 23rd - 27th, in a peaceful cabin setting in the Smoky Mountains.

Betrayal can leave lasting emotional wounds — shaking confidence, disrupting trust, and creating feelings of isolation. This retreat was created to provide a safe, supportive environment where women can begin rebuilding their sense of security, self-worth, and inner strength alongside others who understand similar experiences.

Led by licensed therapist Dana Vince (LPC, MHSP, CEFCT, Supervisor), the four-day retreat will focus on guided healing, reflection, and restoration. Participants will have opportunities to process their experiences without judgment, reconnect with themselves, release emotional burdens, and build meaningful connections with other women on a similar journey.

Organizers emphasize that the retreat is not about rushing recovery, but about honoring each woman’s story while creating space for renewal and growth. The goal is to help participants rediscover clarity, confidence, and hope in a nurturing and supportive setting.

Space is limited to ensure a personal and meaningful experience. Women interested in learning more or reserving a spot can call (865) 283-1777 for details.

For those seeking restoration, connection, and compassionate support, this retreat offers an opportunity to step away from daily pressures and focus fully on healing. More Info & Register
