Step Inside Knoxville History - Tour the Historic Westwood Estate

Knoxville’s rich history comes to life at Westwood — one of the city’s most significant historic homes — where visitors can experience architecture, art, and local heritage all in one remarkable setting. Preserved and operated by Knox Heritage, Westwood offers guided tours that invite the community to explore a beautifully restored estate.

Originally built in 1890, Westwood was the longtime home of renowned Knoxville artist Adelia Armstrong Lutz, whose artwork gained national recognition and helped elevate East Tennessee’s creative identity. Today, the property serves as a historic house museum and headquarters for Knox Heritage, an organization dedicated to preserving the region’s historic places.

Visitors touring Westwood can expect to see period furnishings, artwork, architectural details, and exhibits that highlight both the home’s history and the broader preservation efforts happening across Knoxville. The estate also features beautiful grounds that reflect the charm and character of the late 19th century, offering a peaceful environment just minutes from downtown.

Tours are offered regularly and provide a unique opportunity for history lovers, architecture enthusiasts, and curious locals alike to connect with Knoxville’s past in an engaging, personal way. Whether you’re a longtime resident or new to the area, Westwood offers a meaningful glimpse into the city’s heritage and the importance of preserving it for future generations.

Business Spotlight on K9Boss Training

For nearly three decades, The K9Boss Training has been helping people and dogs find common ground—especially when things feel complicated. Now serving East Tennessee, The K9Boss Training offers a full range of dog training services including puppy obedience classes, beginner and returning adult classes, private in-home or location-based training, specialty field trips, behavior modification, and support for new puppy or first-time dog owners. They are also known for their work with dogs experiencing anxiety and so-called “red zone” dogs that have been flagged or fined by Animal Control or the Humane Society.

Owner and trainer Tricia Seivers brings 28 years of experience and a lifelong passion for understanding canine behavior. Her journey began early, training family dogs, and continued into her twenties when she completed coursework with the Animal Behavior and Training Association and worked with dogs and cats used in commercials. A turning point came with her first Rottweiler, a fear-biting dog from a backyard breeder. Through daily hands-on work, research, and dedication, Tricia developed a deep understanding of how breeding, environment, and handling shape behavior—insight that now informs her work with dogs facing serious challenges.

The K9Boss Training has a flexible, individualized approach. Tricia believes there is no single training method that works for every dog or household. While positive reinforcement can be effective, she is honest about when other approaches may be more appropriate and always collaborates with clients to find realistic, long-term solutions. Her focus isn’t on quick fixes—it’s on sustainable results that work for the dog, the owner, and the rhythms of daily life. Every dog, every family, and every situation is treated as unique.

Community involvement has long been part of Tricia’s work. While based in California, she partnered closely with rescue organizations to rehabilitate dogs and help them find homes, volunteered time and training packages for fundraisers, and participated in numerous local dog-focused events. As she builds roots in East Tennessee, she’s excited to continue that spirit of service here.

Currently, The K9Boss Training is focused on private, customized training sessions across the region and is available to speak at small businesses and corporate workplaces that allow dogs on site—helping employers and employees create safer, calmer, and more productive dog-friendly environments.

SINGO Night Brings Music, Games, and Midweek Fun to Local Smokey Knoxville

Looking for something fun to break up the week? Wednesday nights just got a lot more entertaining at Local Smokey Knoxville with their weekly SINGO Night, happening every Wednesday at 7:00 PM.

SINGO is a music-based twist on traditional bingo — instead of numbers, players listen to songs and mark them off on their cards for a chance to win prizes. It’s easy to learn, interactive, and perfect for groups of friends, date nights, or anyone looking to unwind after a long day.

The fun doesn’t stop with the game. Guests can enjoy smashburgers, traditional wings, drinks, and a variety of bar games, including pool, darts, and Golden Tee. For those who want to stay in the spotlight, karaoke is also part of the midweek entertainment lineup, and trivia takes over on Thursdays for even more fun.

Local Smokey Knoxville is located at 404 Williams Street, making it a convenient downtown spot to gather, relax, and enjoy a lively atmosphere with great food and drinks.

Whether you’re competitive, musical, or just looking for a fun night out, SINGO Wednesdays offer a casual and energetic way to connect with friends and make new ones — all while enjoying a little friendly competition.
