Mabry-Hazen House Launches “Porch Time” After-Hours Social

Knoxville’s historic Mabry-Hazen House (1711 Dandridge Ave) is inviting the community to unwind, explore history, and enjoy a beautiful evening view during Porch Time I, the first event in its newly renamed after-hours social series. The event will take place on March 18th, from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM at the historic house museum atop Mabry’s Hill.

Formerly known as Night at the Museum, the event has been reimagined as Porch Time to highlight one of the property’s most beloved features — its sweeping wraparound porch. Extending around three sides of the historic home, the porch has long served as a welcoming gathering place where visitors can sit back, share stories, and take in views of North Knoxville.

The evening is designed as a relaxed “historical happy hour” where guests can socialize while discovering Knoxville’s past. Attendees will have the opportunity to explore the 1858 Italianate-style home during special after-hours self-guided tours as twilight settles over Mabry’s Hill. Staff members will be available to answer questions, and guests will also enjoy a special behind-the-scenes look at the bottom floor of the house at 7:30 PM.

The museum will showcase artifacts that are not typically on display, offering a rare glimpse into pieces from the Mabry-Hazen collection. With more than 2,500 original artifacts, the museum preserves one of the largest intact family collections in the country.

Outdoor seating will be available across the front porch and lawn, and visitors are encouraged to bring blankets, camp chairs, games, and friends to enjoy the laid-back evening atmosphere. Guests can relax while watching the sunset behind Sharp’s Ridge and seeing the lights of North Knoxville come alive.

Presale tickets are $10 per adult, with free admission for visitors under 16. Tickets purchased at the door will be $13, while Mabry-Hazen House members receive admission for $10. Each paid ticket includes one drink ticket, and additional drinks will be available for $5 each. All proceeds support the preservation and programming of the Mabry-Hazen House Museum. Tennessee Whiskey 202 - A Deep Dive into the Spirit of the Volunteer State

Whiskey lovers and curious newcomers alike are invited to explore the rich heritage of Tennessee whiskey during Tennessee Whiskey 202, an immersive tasting class taking place April 2nd, at 6:30 PM in The Vault Room at Liquor Vault.

This guided experience offers guests the opportunity to sample six distinctive Tennessee whiskies while learning about the unique traditions, techniques, and history that make the state’s signature spirit stand apart from bourbon and other whiskey styles.

Throughout the evening, participants will follow the story of Tennessee whiskey from its early roots in the 1800s, through the challenges of Prohibition, and into the modern resurgence of craft distilling across the state. Along the way, the class will highlight how key pieces of legislation helped shape the whiskey industry that Tennessee is known for today.

Guests will also learn what distinguishes Tennessee whiskey from bourbon, including production techniques and regional traditions that contribute to its distinctive flavor and character.

The event combines education with a relaxed tasting atmosphere, making it perfect for both seasoned whiskey enthusiasts and those just beginning their whiskey journey. A shared appetizer is included with the ticket, adding to the social and flavorful evening.

The class is part of a series hosted by Liquor Vault in partnership with Whiskey University, a program dedicated to whiskey education. Participants who attend multiple classes in the series can earn a Bourbon Whiskey Certificate and the title of “Apprentice Bourbon Taster.”
