New Exhibitions Open at The Emporium

The Arts & Culture Alliance unveils four new exhibitions at the Emporium Center beginning April 3rd from 5:00 to 9:00 PM.

The opening night celebration is free and open to the public, offering guests the opportunity to meet exhibiting artists while enjoying live music by Dry Run Dulcimer in a welcoming gallery atmosphere.

Headlining the new exhibits is What We Carry: Meaning, Memory, and the Human Experience, curated by Jordan Ahlers in the Balcony Gallery. This powerful collection brings together nine contemporary artists working across photography, painting, sculpture, glass, and mixed media. The exhibition explores themes of identity, memory, love, environmental responsibility, and transformation—inviting viewers to reflect on how personal and collective experiences shape our lives.

In the Lower Gallery, the Smoky Mountain Quilters of Tennessee present a special Earth Month-themed exhibit showcasing quilts that highlight nature through a wide range of techniques. From traditional designs to modern interpretations, the works reflect everything from wildlife and weather to sustainability, with some pieces created from recycled materials.

The Atrium Gallery features Artimal History by A.B.A. Turner, a playful and imaginative series that reinterprets classic works of art with anthropomorphic animal figures. Created as part of a children’s book project, the exhibit blends art history with humor and creativity.

In addition, the Display Case highlights handcrafted works from members of the Cumberland Woodturners, showcasing the artistry and craftsmanship of turned wood pieces created by both novice and experienced artisans.

The exhibitions will be on display April 3rd–25 (100 S. Gay Street) at the Emporium Center in downtown Knoxville. Gallery hours are Monday through Friday from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM and Saturday from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM.
