A heartwarming opportunity to spread joy is making its way through the community as one local resident prepares to celebrate an incredible milestone - her 105th birthday!

Cloella Sisk, a beloved member of the Seymour community, will turn 105 years old on March 25th, and friends and neighbors are coming together to make the occasion extra special. You are invited to help celebrate by sending her birthday cards!

Organizers are hoping to collect at least 105 birthday cards, representing not only the years she has lived, but also the many lives she has touched along the way. This effort has become a meaningful tradition, as similar requests have been shared in previous years, beginning with her 100th birthday. Each year, Cloella has enjoyed reading every card she receives.

Community members of all ages are encouraged to participate. In past years, teachers, youth groups, and families have gotten involved—many children even creating handmade cards, adding a personal and heartfelt touch to the celebration.

The Girl Scouts of the Southern Appalachians are hosting The Great Cookie Tasting on March 24th from 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM at the Yee-Haw Brewing Company.

This adults-only event celebrates the grand finale of the 2026 Girl Scout Cookie season with a creative twist—cookie and beverage pairings. Guests will enjoy a curated tasting of classic Girl Scout cookies paired with libations from Yee-Haw Brewing Company, creating a unique flavor experience that goes far beyond your average dessert night.

In addition to the tastings, the evening will include a lively competition where attendees can help crown East Tennessee’s favorite Girl Scout cookie, making it both interactive and fun.

Tickets are $30 per person, and proceeds help support local Girl Scouting programs across the region, empowering young girls through leadership, entrepreneurship, and community involvement.

For nearly 75 years, the Concord Yacht Club (CYC) and Concord Sailing Center (CSC) have been a cornerstone of sailing education and community engagement on Fort Loudoun Lake. Located on Northshore Drive in West Knoxville, this member-run, volunteer organization is dedicated to sharing the joy and skills of sailing with people of all ages across East Tennessee.

CYC/CSC holds a unique place in the region—it is the only sailboat education club on the Tennessee River until you reach Chattanooga. Through a wide range of programs offered throughout the year, the club provides hands-on, on-the-water sailing education that emphasizes safety, confidence, and lifelong learning. From beginner classes to advanced sailing courses, participants gain real experience in a supportive, community-driven environment.

Education is at the heart of everything CYC/CSC does. The organization hosts Sail Camp for youth, Sea Scouts, High School Sailing along with numerous adult sailing courses, helping introduce new generations to the water while strengthening skills for seasoned sailors. Beyond sailing instruction, the club also gives back through community-focused initiatives, including participation in the Knox County Public Library Children’s Festival of Reading and hosting three free Boater Safety classes each year. These safety courses are led by Officer Mike Raleigh of the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency (TWRA) and are open to the public.

Community connection is a major priority, and CYC/CSC is inviting the public to experience it firsthand at their Community Open House on September 20th. The Open House offers a welcoming opportunity for families, prospective sailors, and curious community members to learn more about sailing education, meet club members, explore the facilities, and discover how to get involved—whether as a student, volunteer, or future member.

The organization’s outreach efforts are led by Catherine H. Trapp,  who emphasizes that CYC/CSC exists to serve the broader East Tennessee community—not just its members. Through education, safety training, and public events, the club continues to make sailing accessible and inclusive.

If you’re looking for a truly unique experience this spring, this one is hard to beat. Historic Cherokee Caverns is hosting a special “Movies in the Cave” event on April 11th, featuring a screening of The Goonies - all set deep underground inside a real cave.

This isn’t your typical movie night. Guests will have the chance to explore the caverns with a self-guided tour, taking in the stunning natural rock formations before settling in for the film. The movie will be shown in a designated theater space within the cave, creating an atmosphere that’s equal parts cozy and unforgettable. With the cave holding a steady temperature of around 58 degrees year-round, you’ll definitely want to bring a jacket or blanket for the full experience.

Tickets are $15 (kids 3 and under are free with an adult), and seating is provided, though guests are welcome to bring a small camp chair or blanket for added comfort. Classic concessions—including popcorn, candy, nachos, hot dogs, and pizza—will be available onsite (cash only), and parking is free.

Cherokee Caverns (8524 Oak Ridge Highway) is typically closed to the public except for special events like this, making it a rare opportunity to explore one of Knoxville’s hidden gems. Even better, proceeds help support the preservation of the caverns, which are maintained by local volunteers.

Led by park rangers, this seasonal hike invites participants to experience the beauty of early spring as the landscape begins to come alive. Expect to see budding trees, fresh greenery, and sweeping views of Norris Lake along the park’s well-maintained trail system.
