Kitten Yoga for a Cause

This one is going to fill up fast — and for the best possible reason. Kitten Yoga for a Cause is coming to Breezeway Yoga (4830 Kingston Pike) on May 9th from 1:00 PM–2:00 PM, and there are only 20 spots available. During class, adoptable kittens from Happy Paws Kitten Rescue will be roaming the studio — doing exactly what kittens do while you try to hold your poses. It's yoga, it's chaos, and it's pure joy.

Every dollar raised goes to the Nomar & Mia Compassion Fund — a fund created by Knoxvillian Scott through the University of Tennessee Veterinary Department to honor his two cats who have passed away. The fund helps individuals in the Knoxville community who are struggling to pay emergency vet bills for their pets. It's a meaningful, personal mission, and this class is how the community can help it grow. More Info & Register

ThawOut Fest 2026

An outdoor music festival at World's Fair Park is the perfect way to kick off May — and this year's Thaw Out Fest has a lineup to match.

Thaw Out Fest 2026 hits World's Fair Park on May 1st with doors at 2:00 PM through 10:00 PM, bringing together hip-hop and EDM for a full afternoon and evening of live performances. DaBaby headlines, joined by Acraze, Ian Asher, The Gringos, DJ Winner, and Miami XO, with the event hosted by Raheim Andrews. More acts are still to be announced.

The festival is all ages — attendees under 16 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. Tickets are available through LineLeap. More Info & Tickets

Your Books Have a New Home at the ‘For the Love of Reading’ Book Drive

If you've been holding onto a pile of books since McKay's closed and wondering where to take them, here's your answer.

For the Love of Reading (FTLOR) is hosting a Book Drive on May 2nd from 9:30 AM–11:30 AM behind the Wesley House, at 1719 Reynolds Street — and they're accepting brand new or gently used books for Pre-K through 5th grade children.

FTLOR carefully reviews every donated book to make sure it's in good condition and age-appropriate, then distributes them directly to children through their Library and Community School Giveaways — giving each child the chance to choose and take home a book of their very own. For many of the children they serve, these are the first books they've ever owned. They become treasures — read again and again, shared with siblings, carried into adulthood.

So if you've got a box of children's books looking for a second life, bring them to the Book Drive on May 2nd. You won't find a better place for them to land. Questions? Reach out to [email protected]

Watchhouse's Andrew Marlin & Josh Oliver Play the Bijou Together

Andrew Marlin and Josh Oliver — the duo behind the beloved Americana band Watchhouse (formerly Mandolin Orange) — have been playing and writing together for over a decade. But on May 13th at 7:30 PM at the Bijou Theatre, they're doing something they've never done before: hitting the road as a standalone duo under the Andrew Marlin Stringband banner.

The set will blend their own original material with covers and traditional songs — an intimate evening of the kind of rootsy, beautifully crafted Americana that Watchhouse fans have adored for years, now stripped back to just the two of them and their strings. It's a rare configuration of two incredibly gifted musicians who know each other's playing inside and out. More Info
