Brush with the Wild: Art Meets Nature

Celebrate creativity and the beauty of East Tennessee at Brush with the Wild, happening May 2–3 from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Zoo Knoxville.

This unique art festival brings together talented local artists as they create stunning, animal-inspired masterpieces right before your eyes. Throughout the weekend, visitors can enjoy live music, participate in animal life drawing sessions, and explore the Maker’s Village Craft Fair featuring a variety of handmade goods.

There’s something for all ages, including hands-on activities with the Knoxville Museum of Art, opportunities to try out instruments with The Joy of Music School, and even a fun, family-friendly K-Pop dance class led by Knox K-Pop.

As the day winds down, guests can relax with cocktails and take in sunset views over the Rhino Reserve while enjoying a special auction featuring artwork created during the event—along with a few surprises from some of the zoo’s most artistic residents.

Children’s Festival of Reading!

Get ready to roar into a day of imagination and fun on Saturday, May 16, 2026, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at World's Fair Park!

This milestone celebration brings together world-class authors, illustrators, musicians, and storytellers for a full day of family-friendly entertainment. Enjoy arts and crafts, food vendors, live music, storytimes, science and sports demos, and hands-on activities hosted by local community organizations. Don’t miss the always-popular Parade of Books, a highlight for readers of all ages.

To kick off this year’s dinosaur-themed summer, guests can meet prehistoric pals from East Tennessee Dinosaur Adventure, relax in the “dino-brary,” and discover how anything is “foss-ilble”! Kids will love meeting favorite storybook characters like Corduroy, Biscuit (along with creator Alyssa Satin Capucilli), Bad Kitty, and Penelope Rex, plus a special appearance from Buddy of Dinosaur Train on East Tennessee PBS.

There’s even more prehistoric fun with baby dinos and Tater the T-Rex, and returning this year—hop aboard the Molar Express courtesy of East Tennessee Pediatric Dentistry.

Free Sunsphere Days

Visit Knoxville is bringing back Free Local Sunsphere Days for 2026, giving Knox County residents a chance to enjoy one of the city’s most iconic landmarks at no cost.

These special days will align with First Fridays from May through October—mirroring the months of the 1982 World’s Fair—with one exception in July due to the Independence Day holiday.

Free admission dates include:

  • May 1

  • June 5

  • August 7

  • September 4

  • October 2

On these dates, residents who present a physical Knox County driver’s license can enjoy complimentary access to the 4th Floor Observation Deck inside the Sunsphere.

Please note that space is limited, with a maximum of 40 guests every 30 minutes, and entry is offered on a first-come, first-served basis. To make the most of the experience, the Welcome Center and Observation Deck will also stay open an extra hour, closing at 6 PM instead of the usual 5 PM.
