A Tennessee Author Comes Home

She grew up in Tennessee, studied creative writing at NYU, and built her career in New York City — and now Katie Holt is coming back home for a night Knoxville book lovers won't want to miss.

Katie Holt visits Good Girl Books (7685 South Northshore Drive) on May 23rd at 7:00 PM for an Author Chat & Signing celebrating her brand new novel, The Last Page — her second book, releasing May 12th. The story follows a bookseller with a dream of running her beloved store, pitted against the owner's out-of-touch grandson who inherits everything. Game on. It's the kind of smart, swoony romance that will have you reading past midnight.

Katie will be in conversation with Megan Oliver for what's sure to be a lively, behind-the-book discussion — and the event is completely free, just RSVP to [email protected] to save your spot. More Info

Garden, a Cause & a Community

A Knoxville mom is turning love into action — and she's inviting the whole community to grow hope alongside her family.

Growing Hope with the GFPD returns for its 2nd Annual event on May 16th from 1:00 PM–4:00 PM at the UT Gardens Friendship Pavilion — a beautiful outdoor gathering benefiting the Global Foundation for Peroxisomal Disorders, the organization doing critical research and support work for families affected by these rare conditions worldwide. The event is hosted by Ashley Maple, proud mom to GFPD Warrior Archer.

Admission is completely free, and the afternoon is packed with things to love: a plant and garden swap, local vendors, refreshments, games, crafts, and a scavenger hunt — a welcoming, joyful space for the whole family. Whether you know someone affected by a peroxisomal disorder or simply want to support a cause that hits close to home for so many families, this is a morning worth showing up for. Free tickets and vendor passes are available. More Info

Honor Fountain City Day in the Park

Fountain City Town Hall presents Honor Fountain City Day in the Park on May 25th from 10:00 AM – 4:30 PM at Fountain City Park — a free, family-friendly community celebration honoring the brave men and women of the U.S. Armed Forces who gave their lives in service of our country. The heart of the day is a moving Memorial Day ceremony to remember and pay tribute to their sacrifice.

And then the whole community comes together to celebrate. The day is packed with rides and games, live music, craft vendors, food trucks, community awards, and more — the kind of full-day event that Fountain City families will be talking about long after the flags are folded.

It's free, it's meaningful, and it's a wonderful way to spend Memorial Day with the people you love. More Info

Marble City Opera's Summer Festival

The Marble City Opera 2026 Summer Festival opens on May 30th at the Historic Grove Theater with Josephine — a stunning one-woman opera by composer Tom Cipullo that tells the life story of the legendary Josephine Baker entirely from her own perspective. Soprano Manna K. Jones takes on the role, and if you've never experienced opera before, this intimate, powerful production is the perfect place to start.

On June 6th, Marble City Opera heads outdoors for its beloved annual Opera in the Park — a free concert at Lakeshore Park, complete with food trucks and gorgeous live performances as a gift to the entire Knoxville community. Bring a blanket and bring the family.

The season closes with two performances of The Tragedy of Carmen — a 90-minute adaptation of Bizet's iconic Carmen — on June 18th and 20th at the Historic Grove Theatre in Oak Ridge, featuring soprano and Founding Artistic Director Kathryn Frady, alongside Edward Brennan, Jacquie Reynolds, and Geoffrey Peterson.
