The Water Lantern Festival — voted the #1 Festival in the World by USA Today — is coming to Chilhowee Park and Exposition Center (3301 E Magnolia Ave) on June 13th, with gates opening at 6:00 PM and the lantern launch happening from 9:00 PM–10:00 PM.

Here's how the night works: you arrive, receive your lantern kit, and spend the evening personalizing your lantern with a message, a hope, a wish, or a name that matters. Then, at sunset, thousands of people all around you release their lanterns together onto the water in a choreographed, hour-long ceremony set to live music — and the result is something that people consistently describe as breathtaking.

Food trucks, vendors, lawn games, and a scavenger hunt fill the hours before the launch, so there's plenty to enjoy from the moment you walk in.

Every ticket includes the lantern kit, LED candle, and markers — kids under 8 get in free, and group packages like the Date Night Special (two tickets + blanket for $79.16) and the Family/Friends 4-Pack ($24.99 per person) make it easy to bring your whole crew. General Admission is currently $32.99, with prices rising as the date approaches. The event is rain or shine and completely eco-friendly — every lantern is collected afterward, and the venue is left cleaner than it was found.

The Maker City has launched its annual Knox County Creative Ecosystem Survey, and the ask is simple: take a few minutes to share what your creative life actually looks like. The survey is open to anyone working in a creative field in Knox County — visual artists, musicians, designers, craftspeople, photographers, writers, and everyone in between — regardless of career stage or medium. You don't have to be a full-time professional to count. If you make things, your response matters.

This isn't data that disappears into a file somewhere. Last year's survey results directly shaped the Maker Space Scholarship Program, which places creatives in maker studios for a full year and pairs them with business education to help launch sustainable careers. This year's results will be compiled and shared back with the community, then put to work for grant applications, conversations with developers and city partners, and long-term planning that supports Knoxville's creative sector. The more voices in the room, the stronger that case becomes.

Knoxville Children's Theatre is presenting The Hobbit — Patricia Gray's stage adaptation of J.R.R. Tolkien's beloved classic — running June 5th- 21st at multiple showtimes throughout the run.

Performances are Thursdays and Fridays at 7:00 PM, Saturdays at 1:00 PM and 5:00 PM, and Sundays at 3:00 PM, giving families plenty of chances to catch it.
