Today from 9:30 AM–12:30 PM, Knoxville-area Rotary Clubs are rolling up their sleeves alongside Sleep in Heavenly Peace (SHP) to build 60+ beds for children in need — and it's happening right here in our community at the Mission of Hope facility (6030 Industrial Heights Drive).

Sleep in Heavenly Peace is the leading national nonprofit dedicated to one simple, powerful mission: NO KID SLEEPS ON THE FLOOR IN OUR TOWN®. Right now, 283 Knoxville children are sleeping on floors, couches, or makeshift spaces — and today's build is a direct answer to that need.

The effort is part of World Rotary Day, bringing together more than 580 Rotary members from 11 clubs across Knox, Blount, and Anderson counties to serve families who need it most.

Each handbuilt bed goes directly to a local child, complete with mattress and bedding, delivered free of charge. This is the kind of event that reminds you why community matters — and why showing up makes all the difference. Learn More

Knoxville Botanical Garden and Arboretum (2743 Wimpole Avenue) is hosting A Garden's Story: Mindful Photography on June 6th from 10:00 AM–11:30 AM — a hands-on workshop that will change how you look at the world around you, camera or phone in hand.

Led by Elle Colquitt — a Master Gardener, visual artist, and published author whose work spans garden and abstract photography, travel journals, and sculptural textile art — the workshop begins with a presentation on photographic techniques, exploring composition, color, light, and background, before heading into the garden for a guided practice walk where you'll put it all into action.

You'll learn to capture the graceful lines, curves, patterns, and textures of individual flowers to create truly breathtaking floral portraits — and the techniques apply whether you're shooting with a DSLR or your phone camera.

Set on 44 acres of stunning historic grounds listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the Botanical Garden is one of Knoxville's most beloved hidden gems, and this workshop gives you a beautiful reason to experience it in a whole new way. Tickets are $15, and space is limited.

The Tennessee Theatre (604 South Gay Street) launches its beloved Summer Movie Magic series on June 14th with not one but two big-screen events — and the lineup is guaranteed to make you smile.

Up first: The Wizard of Oz, the timeless 1939 classic, followed by Spaceballs, Mel Brooks' hilarious 1987 parody that still lands every punchline nearly 40 years later. Both screenings are presented by FirstBank, and each one comes with a special treat unique to the Tennessee Theatre: before the film begins, the theatre's iconic Mighty Wurlitzer pipe organ fills the magnificent auditorium with live music — giving every screening an atmosphere you simply can't get anywhere else.

Summer Movie Magic is specifically designed to let locals experience it the way it was built to be experienced: with great films, great company, and the kind of magic that only a historic movie palace can deliver.
