Record High 101 in 1988 | Record Low 50 in 1974

Bad news is good business. We never bought in.

Every morning, financial news follows the same script. Headlines panic, coverage catastrophises, and somewhere inside the noise is the story that actually matters — the one that tells you where the opportunity sits, not just where the fear is pointing.

Most sources have stopped looking. The alarm is easier to sell.

The Daily Upside was created by Wall Street insiders for readers who crave real insight over recycled anxiety. Five minutes of global business and finance, before the noise sets the agenda — just the facts, context, and analysis your decisions need.

Join 1M readers — including managing directors and principals at some of Wall Street’s largest institutions — who trust The Daily Upside to filter through the chaos.

The upsides are always there. We’ll find them before breakfast.

Riders, This One's for You - Sonny's is Organizing a Ride to the Wheels Through Time Museum

If you've got a motorcycle and haven't been tothe Wheels Through Time Museum, this is the excuse you've been waiting for.

Sonny's Original Southern Pub and Nicks Moto are hosting a group ride to the legendary Wheels Through Time Motorcycle Museum on July 26th, and you're invited to roll with them.

The day kicks off with breakfast at Sonny's (2613 Adair Dr) at 8:00 AM, with kickstands up at 9:30 AM sharp. Wheels Through Time is considered one of the finest motorcycle museums in the country — a massive collection of rare and historic American motorcycles, with most of them actually running. It's the kind of place that's worth the ride no matter how many times you've been.

A few things to know before you go: come with a full tank of gas, and bring your own water and snacks — there's no food or drink available at the museum, though the group will be stopping at nearby restaurants along the way. Museum admission is $15 per person (cash or card). It's an all-day ride, and with summer heat expected, plan to dress for the weather and a full day in the saddle. Expect to return to Knoxville later in the evening.

Blitzfire - Knoxville's Foam Dart Arena Goes Full Chaos Mode

If you've ever watched an action movie and thought "I want to be IN that," B&B Indoor Foam Dart Arena has something for you.

Blitzfire — the quarterly signature event at B&B Indoor Foam Dart Arena (6709 Maynardville Pike) — is happening on July 25th from 3:00 PM to 10:00 PM, and it's unlike anything else in our area. This isn't standard open play. Blitzfire is structured chaos: think movie-scene missions, unexpected objectives, team-based gameplay, and the kind of running-and-laughing energy that turns strangers into teammates by the end of the night.

Two well-known names in the national foam dart community are joining as special guests:

  • Al the Geek — a fan favorite with a following built around creative foam dart gameplay and gear

  • Joe Dodson, aka "Backyard Foam" — known for high-energy blaster content and community events

This is a quarterly event that draws players from well outside Knoxville — past Blitzfire events have brought participants from Atlanta, Nashville, Washington D.C., Baltimore, Ohio, Florida, Kentucky, and Virginia. It's become a destination event in a niche that's growing fast, and it's happening right here at home. Recommended age: 12+.

If you want a warm-up, B&B is also hosting a Build a Blaster session the night before — July 24th from 7:00 PM–9:00 PM. More Info & Tickets

Fountain City Jewelers' Flexible Jewelry Event

You know that feeling when a ring or bracelet catches your eye in a case and then you put it on and immediately realize it's going to drive you crazy? Fountain City Jewelers has a three-day event next month built around fixing exactly that problem.

The Flexible Jewelry Event runs August 13th–15th at Fountain City Jewelers (2802 Essary Drive), and it's exactly what it sounds like: a special showcase of bracelets and rings crafted from genuine 14K gold, diamonds, and natural gemstones — but designed with innovative flexibility that moves naturally with your hand and wrist. The result is fine jewelry that looks as stunning as anything you'd expect from a real jeweler while actually feeling like you're barely wearing it.

The tagline is "Because sometimes we bend the rules" — and the underlying idea is that fine jewelry should be as comfortable as it is beautiful. Whether you're looking for an everyday piece you can wear without thinking about it, or something special to mark a milestone, this collection is worth a look in person. Flexible jewelry really is one of those things you have to feel to understand.

The event runs all three days during regular store hours — Monday–Friday, 10:00 AM–6:00 PM. No appointment needed. Stop in anytime August 13th–15th. More Info

IBN Masterclass - A Premium Business Growth Experience

If you've sat through enough "business seminars" that were mostly PowerPoints and theory, the IBN Masterclass is built to fix that.

On July 16th from 8:45 AM to noon at Bearden Banquet Hall (5806 Kingston Pike), Incredible Business Networking — co-hosted by Jennifer Maizel of Marvelous Maizel Marketing — brings together three local entrepreneurs for a morning of real-world, actionable business intelligence. Not motivation. Not theory. Practical strategies from people actively running businesses right now, here in Knoxville.

Here's who's on stage:

Andrew Ingram (Reef Coffee & Hurricane Cycles) opens the morning talking about turning passion into purpose — how his background as a professional cyclist shaped his approach to building businesses that bring people together, and how he created community-first spaces that grow each other's talents.

Crystal McNamee (Park + Alley) follows with "Building a Brand People Trust" — covering how to compete on value instead of price, scale through delegation, and use social media to build long-term loyalty. Park + Alley redefined the real estate and home design experience in Knoxville by combining those worlds under one brand.

Tim Shaughnessy (President, Preferred Construction) anchors the morning as the featured keynote, diving into the three disciplines he's found most critical in running an award-winning East Tennessee company with over 60 employees: staying curious, being willing to ask for help, and having the humility to keep growing.

The format includes a deluxe hot breakfast, two open networking breaks between speakers, and a featured panel Q&A before closing remarks. Seats are limited and expected to fill.

Admission: $49 (breakfast included) · Free parking · Refunds available up to 14 days before the event. More Info & Tickets
