Record High 102 in 2012 | Record Low 56 in 1974

The largest IPO in history is coming. Where will all that liquid money go?

SpaceX just filed for an IPO valued at up to $1.75 trillion. When that much capital becomes liquid all at once, where it goes next is the big question.

Meanwhile, spring art auctions in NY cleared $2.5 billion, with 15+ new artist records.

Prized, physical assets with fixed and scarce supply. When the ultra-wealthy get liquid, it’s one of the markets they reach for to diversify.

Masterworks lets you into that art market without needing the nine figures. Its members invest in shares of blue-chip artwork by artists like Banksy, Basquiat and Warhol.

The track record to-date?

  • $1.3B deployed across 500+ artworks

  • 29 sales to date

  • Net annualized returns like 16.5%, 17.6%, and 17.8%, not including those unsold*

*Investing involves risk. Past performance is not indicative of future returns. See important disclosures at masterworks.com/cd.

Rain Barrel Workshop

The City of Oak Ridge's Healthy Waters Program, in collaboration with the Water Quality Forum, is hosting a Rain Barrel Workshop on July 18th at 9:00 AM at 100 Monterey Rd, Oak Ridge. For $50, instructors will teach you how to transform a standard 55-gallon barrel into a functioning rain barrel for your garden — and you leave with the finished product in hand.

Your ticket covers everything: the barrel itself, all the hardware, an attachment designed to hook directly to your home's downspout, and an educational presentation on the environmental and practical benefits of rainwater collection. Light refreshments are also provided.

Rain barrels are one of those simple, satisfying home improvements that pay off every time it rains — lower water bills, less runoff, and a free supply of unchlorinated water for your garden all summer long. This workshop was created to raise funds for Waterfest while encouraging sustainable practices across the region, so you're supporting something good while picking up a useful skill.

Seats are limited by nature of the workshop format — grab your ticket before they're gone. More Info & Tickets

Slick City Indoor Slide Park is Now Open

If you've been looking for a way to burn some energy this summer that doesn't involve standing in the heat, Slick City Action Park (9305 Kingston Pike (Suite 110) opened this spring, and it is exactly what it sounds like.

Slick City is a massive indoor amusement park built around slides — not the kind from a backyard playset, but full-size, high-speed attractions with names like the Mega Launch (their signature heart-dropping flagship slide), Riptide (their steepest slide yet, described as "one deep breath, one big drop, and a whole lot of scream-worthy fun"), and Big Wave, a half-pipe-style ride that sends you banking back and forth off giant walls. There are 15 total attractions including the racing Fast Lane (four lanes, race your crew to the bottom), the twisting Python, the bone-rattling Cowabunga, the parkour-ready Freestyle Air Court, and a bouncy Sport Air Court for basketball and dodgeball — plus dedicated areas for kids 5 and under with Junior Jungle and Web Crawler. One of Knoxville's Most Remarkable Estates is Now Open to the Public

The Eugenia Williams House at 4848 Lyons View Pike is now open to the public through guided tours and open grounds — and the story of the woman who built it is every bit as compelling as the property itself.

Eugenia Williams was born in 1900, the only surviving child of Dr. David Williams — a local physician who became one of the early investors in Coca-Cola bottling rights in Knoxville.

With the considerable wealth that followed, the family acquired riverfront property on Lyons View, and Eugenia eventually inherited the estate in 1929. She commissioned noted architect John Fanz Staub — a Knoxville native and childhood acquaintance — to design a new home in the Regency Revival style, completed in 1941.

Eugenia lived there, mostly alone, for over 40 years. She passed away in 1998 at the age of 98, donating the house and property to the University of Tennessee in honor of her father. The Aslan Foundation purchased it from UT in 2020 and undertook a meticulous restoration to bring it back to its original beauty and open it to the community.

Guided tours are available throughout the week — check the online calendar for upcoming tour times and book your spot through Knoxville Walking Tours.

The trails and grounds are open to the public Thursday–Saturday, 10:00 AM–5:00 PM for picnics, walks, and quiet reflection among the diverse plant life and wild gardens.

Bonus this summer: The Knoxville Museum of Art has installed Gabriel Lester: Melancholia in Arcadia inside the house, on view every Saturday from noon to 4:00 PM through August 29th. It's free, no ticket required — just show up (first come, first served as capacity allows). More Info
