The 3rd Annual Polish Heritage Festival comes to the Cathedral of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus (711 S. Northshore Dr) on August 1st — an evening that begins with Mass at 5:00 PM and flows into three hours of cultural celebration from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM.

The event is a community gathering rooted in Polish tradition — the kind of evening where the food, music, and fellowship are all part of the same story. The Cathedral of the Most Sacred Heart is one of the most stunning venues in Knoxville, and it's a fitting backdrop for a celebration that's grown year over year since it started.

Whether you have Polish roots yourself or you're simply looking for something genuinely different to do on a Saturday evening in August, this one is worth making time for. More Info

Hello Market — organized alongside Linked-Different and community partners — is hosting their Back to School Community Event on August 1st from 12:00 PM to 6:00 PM at 11214 Outlet Drive. Admission is free. All ages are welcome.

The afternoon is built around community: local vendors and organizations set up shop, families browse and connect, and kids get a free activity area complete with a bounce house. Students can also receive free school supplies while supplies last — to stretch the supply as far as possible, distribution is limited to 1–3 items per person.

Whether you're trying to knock out some back-to-school prep, support local businesses, or just give the family a fun Saturday afternoon before summer wraps up, there's something here for everyone. More than 300 people have already responded to the event, so it's shaping up to be a full house.

Ijams Nature Center (2915 Island Home Ave) is hosting Wilderness Basics: Beginner Outdoor Skills on July 25th from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM.

The course is built for beginners and focused on the practical stuff. In three hours, you'll learn how to prioritize your needs in a survival scenario, build a shelter, start and maintain a fire, and acquire and store food in the wild. The whole philosophy is "thrive, not just survive" — meaning this isn't a fear-based crash course, it's an actual skill-building afternoon that makes you more confident the next time you're in the woods.

A few things to know before you go: This program is designed for ages 14 and up. Expect to cover up to one mile of terrain over uneven surfaces — rocks, roots, and gravel — so dress accordingly. All participants must complete an Assumption of Risk Form before the program. If you've already filled one out for another Ijams Education Program this calendar year, you're all set. New participants can complete it at ijams.org/waiver.

Tickets are $15 plus a small service fee. Register

If your dog has been waiting for their moment in the spotlight, September 12th is the day.

Powell Pet Palooza 2026 — the second annual community celebration for pet lovers in the Powell area — returns to Beaver Ridge United Methodist Church (7753 Oak Ridge Hwy) on September 12th from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM. The event is organized by the Powell Small Business Network and Sara's Waggy Tails LLC, and they're promising bigger and better than last year.

The day brings together pet businesses and services, vendors, contests, and fun doggy activities all under one roof. And this year there's a Dog/Pet Talent Show — with its own registration form if your pet has a trick worth showing off. More than 200 people have already responded to the event, which tells you the first year built some serious momentum. Admission is free.

🗓️ Now through July 31st - The "Where's Waldo?" Scavenger Hunt is returning to Downtown Knoxville, and it's free for the whole family. Starting July 1st and running all month long, Waldo will be hiding inside dozens of downtown businesses — shops, restaurants, museums, galleries, and more — just waiting to be spotted. More

🗓️ July 18th - The Norwood Branch Library is hosting an Ask a Master Gardener session from 10:00 AM to noon. Bring your plant problems, your gardening questions, or a photo of whatever's going wrong with your tomatoes. Master Gardeners are there to help with exactly this kind of thing, free of charge.

🗓️ July 18th - The Bat Walk at Collier Preserve (off Paper Mill Road) from 9:00 AM - 10:00 AM, Master Gardeners are leading a guided bat walk at dusk — a chance to learn about the species that call this preserve home and why bats matter so much to the local ecosystem.
